Cleaning an Inverter.

My off grid home has inverters that work continously. Dust will build up inside them and preventative cleaning is mandatory.

Step 1: Removing the Inverter.

Turning off the circuit breaker to isolate the 24vdc supply, I used my Ratchet and 10mm socket to remove the lugs off the inverter. Also the ground and my custom control signal to the inverter needed to be disconnected.

The output for 120vac has to be unplugged. Next the two screws holding the unit to the wall removed.

Step 2: Opening the Inverter.

Four Phillips head screws hold the base plate. I turned on the inverter to discharge residual charge from the DC input capacitors. When the piezoelectric speaker died off I turned the inverter off. Now it is ready for cleaning. See how much lint and dust accumulated?

Step 3: Cleaning!

Using a clean cloth soaked in Rubbing alcohol and a small paint brush, I carefully cleaned the dust from inside the unit.

Step 4: Completion!

Once satisfied the internals were dust free, I reassembled the inverter and reinstalled. Now my home is using green renewable energy yet again!
