Introduction: Creative Props and Costumes by Mike Spurgeon

Mike Spurgeon April 18, 1979

Several years ago I found out about the 501st Legion and aspired to join their ranks.  Little did I know that joining this amazing organization would change my life forever.

I worked long and hard and I was finally able to piece together my costume and qualify for membership.  Throughout the process I became fascinated with costuming.  This new-found hobby lead me to expand beyond the Star Wars outfits in the 501st Legion and into costumes from movies, comics, and novels.

As I explored my interest in costuming I realized that I have a talent for crafting costumes and props.  My pastime quickly became my passion.  Using the limited tools and resources at my disposal, I have since made many screen accurate props and costumes as well as several Halloween props for our yearly haunt.  I taught myself about circuits and animatronics so that I could bring my props to life giving them another level of realism.

Being able to create high quality costumes and props for myself and other enthusiasts is my dream.  Having the proper tools would allow me to increase my creative capacity and expand my market.  For me, independence is being able to follow my dreams, to do something that I truly love, and to be able to share that with the world.
