Introduction: File-knife

Step 1: Get a File

This isn't the same file I used for the knife, but it's the same style. It's just a metal file.

Step 2: Grind and Cut

I used multiple different discs to cut and grind the file. I ground an edge and cut an angle on the file, pretty simple. Don't try to sharpen the file completely because a fine edge could warp in the next step.

Step 3: Heat Treat and Temper

I grabbed a small bag of charcoal an dumped in as much as I could fit. Once it got going,I dumped the metal in and waited, once it got so hot I grabbed a magnet and tested to see if it was non-magnetic. When it gets to that point, then dunk it in any kind of oil you have to cool it. Once it is cooled, fire up the oven to almost as high as it goes, around 500. Leave it sit for a few hours in there, then take it out to cool on a cookie rack.

Step 4: Sharpen

I grabbed another metal file and some clamps and gave it a nice edge.

Step 5: Add the Handle

I cut down some red oak peices and sanded them down on the corners. I got ahold of some cutlery rivets and used those to hold them together.

Step 6: "finishing" Touches

Get it, " finishing" touches. Well aside from the jokes, I just used some Danish oil with a walnut color to it.

Step 7: Sheath

I didn't get any pics of the making of he sheath, but it's just hand sewn boot leather and some Velcro.

Step 8: Admire You're Craftsmanship

Looks good doesn't it.
