Introduction: Grilled Ham, Sauerkraut & Swiss Cheese Croissant

About: Born in Flushing Queens, NY, and growing up in Maywood, NJ., I learned my problem solving skills from my mother, my handy man skills from my father and my cooking skills from both of my parents. As a Cub Scout…

Ingredients:

Ham {4/6 Sandwich Slices}

1/8 to 1/4 c Sauerkraut {Drain}*

2 Swiss Cheese Slices

Croissant {Favorite Bakery/Store}

Mustard {My Suggestion if available-Kosciusko Coarse Grained Mustard}

Servings: 1

Prep: 5 Minutes

Cook Time: 20-25 Minutes

*Sauerkraut;

Drain; Before adding the sauerkraut to the sandwich you want to make sure it is not dripping wet, otherwise the sandwich will be soggy.

Step 1:

Take your croissant and cut it in half and smear mustard both sides. On the bottom half of the croissant place half of your ham down then the sauerkraut, one slice Swiss Cheese then the rest of your ham then the second slice of Swiss Cheese and replace the top half of the croissant. Like any of my recipes you can always substitute different meats & cheeses or add any ingredients to fit you and your family's taste.

Step 2:

Place your sandwich on the center of your foil and make a foil bag {How to Make a Foil Pouch and Foil Bag}. Using a bag over a pouch will not squash the sandwich when wrapping it. If you are making different versions remember to mark on the package what is inside with a marker.

Step 3:

To cook your Grilled Ham, Sauerkraut & Swiss Cheese Croissant place it onto the edge of the fire on the hot coals and cook for 20-25 minutes, rotating it 180° after 10 minutes and again at 15 and 20 minutes. If you have a grill grate place it over the fire and cook on it, the grate makes it easier and cuts down on the chance of the foil tearing and the croissant from burning during the cooking process. {Cooking times depend on how hot your fire is.}

Very good & easy sandwich to make, definitely worth trying.

Warning: Any food coming out of the fire or off the grill will be hot when you go to remove your food from the fire be sure to use something other than your bare hands to retrieve your meals like pot holders, a tea towel or tongs.
