How to Install a RT-AC87R Router

This is a basic introduction for installing/setting up your RT-AC87R Router. From my experience from using a router, and previous knowledge, I am able to use my skills in order to bring you this instructable. At the end of the tutorial is basic F.A.Q's, Definitions, and a conclusion to the project. Thank you very much for taking time and reading this instruction guide.

Step 1: Step 1. Plug in All Included Cables:

Your first step is to gather all the needed cables for your home network. Please make sure you are using the right cable. This router uses RJ-45 connections. As seen in the image, the top cable is the input (From my ISP Box) and the bottom two are to my home network switches.

Step 2: Step 2. Place the Router

Make sure you have the Router on its correct position and on a non heated surface. You should make sure you have your router in a secure location. At the time of making this tutorial, I just moved into a new apartment, and needed a temporary location for my Router.

Step 3: Step 3. Login to the Router

Normally you would use 192.168.1.1, but this router uses the URL link: Router.Asus.com

Once you attempt, the Router will direct you to a page that requests a User:Pass

The Default User:Pass is admin:password.

Step 4: Step 4. Greeting Page

You will be greeted with a page that requests you to set up the routers configuration.

In this set, the router will connect to the internet access you offer, and will make a solid connection to your ISP.

Step 5: Step 5. SSID and Pass

The Router will require you to assign a SSID and a Password:

I used Bromise for my SSID.

Step 6: Step 6. Protective Password

When selecting a password, use a difficult (8 character) 8-bit Encryption in order for basic support. The longer, and more complicated the password, the harder it will be for people to break into your connection.

Step 7: Step 7. Reassurance

The Router will set up and request that you clarify its connection/ Security features for it.

Step 8: Step 8. Checking

This is the step to reassure you inputted all information into your configuration before the Router inputs and attains it.

Step 9: Step 9. Basics

I would recommend testing your connection by going to SpeedTest.net to test your connection type to the web. I would recommend doing a packet check to your router. I would include a link, but simply googling that information will lead to more guides. "Packet Check." You are more than welcome to skip this step.

Step 10: Step 10. Logging In

Once you are done. You should test your logging in to your network from another computer.

As seen above, this is what your home page will look like after the process is complete.

Step 12: Step 12. Troubleshooting

-Connection If you are unable to connect to the internet, I would recommend that you call your local ISP

-If your Router doesn't turn on, You need to follow the RMA Process to get it replaced.

Step 14: Step 14. Password

When you make up a password for your router, please make it complicated, or you will soon see visitors on your network. Using the word "Password" for a password is the worst example to use.
