Introduction: How to Set Up a Fundraiser: a Small Thing With Big Results

About: Interstellar traveller and writer of many things. I make stuff.

Sometimes there are really big things life throws at us that require money. A lot. Sometimes more than we could even afford. Unfortunately, there was no efficient online fundraising site for John Smith, but he's long dead and always used as an example.

This Instructable will walk you through the process of setting up a Fundraiser with clear screenshots for demonstration and a real fundraiser at the end: Help the Heaths Beat Lyme Disease.

Step 1: Set Up Your Account and Create a Title

Easy. Everyone's been through this; just type in your name, email, and password. Once you've signed up, you will be taken to a page where you put in details for your fundraiser, starting with the title, the organizer, and the beneficiary, respectively.

Step 2: Fill in the Category and Location

Step 3: Add a Picture and Write the Story

Upload a picture that well defines your fundraiser (i.e. of the beneficiary) and below in the text box write up a description of your fundraiser so that people are notified about what exactly it is you are raising money for.

Step 4: Choose Whether or Not to Make Your Fundraiser Private, and Select "Save Your Fundraiser"

Step 5: Confirm.

Now you just click the button CONFIRM to confirm that you have a US bank account and social security number.

Step 6: Share Your Fundraiser Through Social Media

This is a very important step, as the only way to get people to view your fundraiser and collecting money is to share it on all your social media first. Try to spread the word by adding "Please share and help to spread the word." This will guarantee more shares and more money coming in.

Step 7: Managing Your Fundraiser

On your fundraiser, you will see a box with a purple button saying Manage Your Fundraiser. Click it to view your fundraiser's stats, your account status, view your funds and supports, edit your fundraiser, post updates, and pictures and/or videos.

Click on this link to see a full, set up, live fundraiser, which is raising money to pay for a family's financial need as they fight Lyme Disease, which is a much more realistic example of a finished YouCaring fundraiser.
