Introduction: Install a Gorgeous Soaking Tub Light Fixture in the Most Difficult Way

In this Instructable, I’ll take you through the process of installing the most meticulous light fixture I’ve ever worked on. I do handyman projects in my spare time, and an interior designer hired me to install this light. The result was beautiful, but could have (possibly) been easier. Let’s get started!

Step 1: Step 1: Replace the Existing Light With the Fixture Base

This step is pretty straight-forward. Disconnect the old (can light in this case) light and install the new base. I won’t go over how, as you should hire this out if you’re not comfortable working with electrical fixtures.

Step 2: Step 2: Take a Moment to Appreciate What You’ve Gotten Yourself Into

On the fixture are bags. 91 of them to be exact. In each bag is a thin wire wound into a loop with small crystals attached. A smarter or wiser man would have opened and unwound those wires before mounting the fixture base to the ceiling and then just untangled them. I am not that man. I opted to straddle a garden tub and do all that while working overhead.

Step 3: Step 3: Realize the Fun Has Just Begun

So, now that the wires are untangled and hanging in roughly the place they should be, you get to turn your attention to the trays of golf ball sized crystal pendants that are each individually wrapped. A smarter man might have taken the time to unwrap, prep and position these crystals close at hand to make attaching them easier. We’ve already established that he wasn’t working on this light though, so go ahead and, one-at-a-time, grab a pendant, unwrap it, and attach it to a wire, ensuring you move from the tub-straddling position to the floor as many times as possible. I started in the middle and worked my way out, which might or might not have been the smarter choice. Just don’t work outside in, as you’ll end up navigating a forest of wires which tangle each time you breathe.

Step 4: Step 4: Give Your Arms and Legs a Break and Enjoy

You’ve done it. All 91 individual pendants are hung, the floor is covered in trash, you’re unsure if your arms and legs will ever recover, but it’s finished. It gives a very champagne-like bubble-esque feel to the soaking tub and bathroom. But all you can appreciate is you are no longer balancing over a tub and your arms are gratefully below your head. Come back in 3 days when the pain subsided and try to enjoy it.
