Introduction: LEGO + Sugru = 4 Awesome Projects (+ Video)

LEGO is awesome, but what if you could make everything LEGO compatible !!!!!

Because LEGO is made from ABS, (one of sugru's favourite materials to bond to) we came up with some great projects using sugru to help make LEGO even better !!!!!

All you need is sugru, LEGO and stuff to bond them to :)

sugru + LEGO projects:

1: Make a USB cable mount on your monitor (see step 2)

2: Transform a pen into a LEGO character (see step 3-4)

3: Transform your bike handle bars into a play space for your kids (see step 5)

4: Make almost any toy LEGO compatible (see step 6)

Why sugru is good for this:
1: bonds to ABS brilliantly :)
2: bonds to most other materials
3: you can remove sugru from most non porous surfaces without leaving any marks (see step 7)

Take note: Unlike LEGO, sugru isn't a toy. While it's still soft and squidgy, sugru is for grownups, not kids, so keep it away from those little guys. Once sugru has had time to cure, it's safe for everyone.

Step 1: THE BASICS

There are a few basic steps for every sugru + LEGO hack, this step covers these basics so you can pretty much do any combination.

The BASICS:
1: Chose your LEGO piece, we love the shallow pieces as they are much smaller and less obtrusive on your stuff.

2: Press a sausage of sugru firmly onto the LEGO.

3: Make a pyramid shape (this helps get a great bond in the next step)

4: Press the LEGO firmly onto the surface.

5: Leave overnight to cure

Step 2: 1: Make a USB Cable Mount on Your Monitor

you need 2 pieces of LEGO for this, one to bond to your USB cable and the other to your monitor.


1: Make 2 small sausages of sugru the length of the LEGO pieces.

2: Press 1 piece of sugru firmly onto the back of one LEGO block and the second piece onto the front of the other.

3: Make a mini pyramid from the sugru with your fingers. (This will help you get a good bond in the next step)

4: Press the sugru firmly onto the end of your USB cable and the other onto the side of your monitor making sure you get a good bond.

5: Finally, gently press the sugru around the edges to get a nice surface finish.

5: Leave both to cure overnight.

6: Once cured, you can easily pop your cable on and off your monitor, yay, a tidy desk :)

Step 3: 2: Transform a Pen Into a LEGO Character

this project uses a tiny amount of sugru, so it's a good one for your left over sugru.

1: Make a small sausage of sugru, roughly 1cm long.

2: Insert one end into the hollow of the round stud lego piece. Press in until fills the hole.

3: Make the end of the sugru into a mini pyramid with your fingers. (This will help you get a good bond in the next step)

4: Press the sugru point firmly onto the end of your pen to get a good bond.

5: Make sure the LEGO piece is nice and straight. Finally, gently press the sugru around the edges to get a nice surface finish.

5: Leave the pen to cure overnight before popping your LEGO heads on :) Use tape prop the pen up while the sugru cures.

6: Once cured you can attach whatever lego head suits your mood. Experiment with different characters, hairstyles and hats. Enjoy!

Step 4: Add the Lego Heads

Step 5: 3: Transform Your Bike Handle Bars Into a Play Space for Your Kids

This is a nice way to make your bike more kid friendly as you take them to nursery etc.


1: Make a small sausage of sugru the length of the LEGO piece.

2: Press the sugru firmly onto the back of the LEGO block.

3: Make a mini pyramid from the sugru with your fingers. (This will help you get a good bond in the next step)

4: Press the sugru firmly onto the handlebar making sure you get a good bond.

5: Finally, gently press the sugru around the edges to get a nice surface finish.

5: Leave to cure overnight.

6: Once cured, you kid can pop their favourite LEGO characters there as you ride around, yay :)

Step 6: 4: Make Almost Any Toy LEGO Compatible

this one can be as crazy as your imagination, just use the same steps as before but you can build all kinds of crazy new LEGO compatible toys, we made a dinosaur, what will you make ?...


1: Make a small sausages of sugru the length of the LEGO piece.

2: Press the sugru firmly onto the back of the LEGO block.

3: Make a mini pyramid from the sugru with your fingers. (This will help you get a good bond in the next step)

4: Press the sugru firmly onto the end of your toy making sure you get a good bond.

5: Finally, gently press the sugru around the edges to get a nice surface finish.

5: Leave both to cure overnight.

6: Once cured, you can easily build other LEGO blocks or characters onto your new LEGO compatible toy, yay :)

Step 7: Sugru Is Removable :)

sugru is super easy to remove, and if the surface is non porous, should leave no marks or residue.

1: Cut off the sugru using a sharp blade or knife.

2: Use the back of your finger nails to scrape off the remaining sugru.

3: Use a dry tissue paper to wipe the remaining residue off.

4: If there is still some residue, use a baby wipe to wipe the surface.
