Introduction: Lift Top Coffee Table
Here are a few pictures of a coffee table that I made recently. Didn't take enough pictures to make a "real" Instructable, but I though I would share what I had created. The person who I made this for wanted a dark stain to match some existing furniture. I ended up using Poplar for the construction, and coloring with some General Finishes Gel Stain. The color match came out very well.
Construction of the frame is all double mortise and tenon joints connecting the legs to the apron pieces. Did a decorative bead on the aprons, and a chamfer on the outside of the legs. The top has a thumbnail edge profile.
I used a table lift mechanism from Lee Valley that raises the table top to a comfortable height for working or eating. It is spring loaded, and lifts at the touch of a finger.
After machining the legs to size, I had a few chunky cutoffs, so I stuck one on the lathe and made a spinning top!
While doing some workshop cleaning, I found the original sketches I had done when designing the table.
