Weebles wobble, but they don't fall down.

Most people may have grown up playing with Weeble Wobbles or some other roly poly balancing toy. The basic premise of the toy is that no matter how you tumble these toys, they always end up upright every time.

After going through leftover easter trinkets, I saw that those plastic easter eggs are the perfect vessel for a little Weeble action. Starting out small, I tested tried making my own Weeble. The process was so darn easy, I figure I have to share it with all the people out there trying to figure out what to do with their leftover plastic eggs.

Everyone can enjoy these fun toys, here are some great uses:

Make Weebles of your family, friends, co-workers
Make some great party favors!
Activity with the kids on the cheap.

The ones we will be making are probably not of the baby or small child safe caliber, but they are still fun for most ages!

Step 1: Materials Needed

To turn a plastic egg into a Weeble, you don't need very much:

1) Plastic Eggs - The more rounded ones are more Wobbly, but they are harder to balance, the squat-bottomed eggs are my preference.

2) Hot Glue - This will be your best friend when making the Weeble. Just don't burn yourself!

3) A Weight - The cheapest route is a stack of 5 - 8 pennies taped together. I prefer using a big nut. (Not the kind you eat, but the kind used to fasten bolts.

That's all you need, but if you want to decorate your Weeble, you have a ton of choices.

Paint
Permanent markers
Stickers
Adhesive address label paper and a printer (My favorite) You will need scissors or an hobby knife to cut pictures out.
Anything else you can think of!

Step 2: Glue Your Egg

OK! Centering your weight is key to getting your Weeble to wobble right. Find the absolute bottom of the egg, in most eggs, there will be a little dimple at the base. This is where you want to center your weight.

1) Secure the Weight:

Dip a generous glob of hot glue in the bottom of your egg's bottom half.
With the egg bottom sitting even on a level surface, put your nut or pennies down on the glob. Don't burn yourself!
put more hot glue on top, evenly, to add extra security.
Make sure the egg bottom sits level, if it doesn't, try to put a little hot glue on the side tilting up to level the egg.

2) Seal the egg.

On the half of the egg that has the outer lip, put a ring of hot glue all the way around the edge.
Quickly close the egg
Leave the egg sitting level for 5 minutes while the glue cools.

Step 3: Have Fun! Decorate!

Now I thought about stopping the project after the egg is sealed, but the truth is that the magic doesn't begin until you breathe some life into your Weeble. The sky is the limit!

I have no real step by step instructions, because this is where you can use your creativity. But I do have some tips on what I did.

Use some of those stickers that come with egg decorating kits.
Paint on a face or something fun. If you don't have paint, permanent markers work just fine.
Find a picture from the internet. Print it on address label paper, cut them out and stick them on your egg.

FYI - Larger stickers do not always stick well on a round surface. Sometimes you have to cut slits in your sticker to keep it from bunching up. The sticker I used for Oscar's "trash can" is an example of this. I just cut a bunch of vertical slits in the sticker to make it work.
