Introduction: Matt the Radar Technician

About: I like taking stuff apart and making random things

I'm a fan of Saturday Night Live and Star Wars. When I saw the skit with Kylo Ren as an Undercover Boss called Matt I knew what my first cosplay costume was going to be.

Here is the skit for those that have not seen it yet. Star Wars Undercover Boss: Starkiller Base - SNL

I had a Disney Cruise coming up shortly that also had a Star Wars Day at Sea. So some of my items weren't an exact match. I also did not go with the wig since I couldn't find a good one in time.

On the cruise I only found two other people dressed up as Matt. The outfit got good feedback and everyone seemed to like it.

Step 1: Things You Need

Orange Rhodesian Style Tactical Vest - http://sgtdirtnappscamo.com/?page_id=757#!/Blaze-Orange-Hunting-Rhodesian-Style-Tactical-Vest/p/36545701 Note: The buckles are no longer orange as in the SNL Skit, they are black. I had got mine before they sold out of the original style

Name Badge - If you get the vest from the seller above it comes with a name badge. Otherwise any place that makes badges could make one. Bannister Designs

Aviator Glasses - Couldnt find an exact match, Just look around for whatever you can find that matches the closest and is easy to get

Gray Dickies Deluxe Cotton Coverall - Available on Amazon, Thats where I got mine.

Patches - You can find these on etsy and such. I made my own.

Wig - Grow your hair out and dye it or Ive been told if you search for FTLD167 on ebay that this wig is good.

Black boots - Whatever fits and is comfortable

Kylo Ren Lightsaber - I got the one that the end collapses from Target, it makes it easy to pack. But again whatever one you like will work well. Star Wars The Force Awakens Kylo Ren Deluxe Electronic Lightsaber

After the rain comes the rainbow card - You can print one out from here http://iggysdroidfactory.com/2017/11/04/after-the-rain-comes-the-rainbow-pop-up-card-replica/

Step 2: Making the Patches

I searched on google images for Star Wars New Order logo and saved the one that looked the best and would work in my image tracing program.

I used Silhouette Studio to trace the image and create cut lines for my Silhouette Portrait cutter. You could use any program as long as the method works for your machine.

I used the Silhouette branded Dark Red Heat Transfer and Silhouette branded Black Heat Transfer

Once I had the images ready I cut them on to the heat transfer vinyl. Then I lined them up and ironed them on to the coveralls. A suggestion would be to put on the coveralls and have a helper mark the placement so they are even and centered. I didn't do that so mine are a bit off center.

Step 3: Name Badge Details

My name badge isn't a screen perfect match but it was cheap and quick. It looked close enough for me. If I had more time I would look for a closer matching one.

For the name badge I ordered it from Bannister Designs. It was their 3/4" x 2 3/4" Small Badge in Brushed Gold Black. Font was Times New Roman

Step 4: Final Step

If you are lucky you can then find your Grandfather and get a family photo. Also if you see any BB-8 units make sure to get that map piece from it.
