Introduction: Old Keyboard Transormed Into Custom Gaming Keyboard

About: ummmmmmmmm........ Look a Platypus!!

Hello everyone, this is a instructable on how to make and old, now worthless, keyboard into an up-to-date gaming keyboard. This will be most effective if done for a specific game ( I.E. Counter-Strike ) because of key-removal. Also, I only recommend you do this if its for a fast-paced game where precision is vital, and mistakes are tragic.

Enjoy.

Step 1: Materials

The following things are required or recommended items to help you get the most out of your keyboard;

~ Old Keyboard [Needed (one that is value-less)]
~ Flat-Head screwdriver or Wedge of some kind [Needed (used to remove keys)]
~ Print-Out of base game. [Highly Recommended]
~ Duct Tape or other preferred material [Needed ]
~ Knife or Scissors [Needed ]

Step 2: Taking the Screen-shot (Optional)

To do this, go into the game of choice, in my case Call Of Duty 4, and take a screen-shot of the Controls Menu. In some games, it will seem like every-key is used, StarCraft is one of them, but taking only the most often used keys is usually the best solution. You may have to take multiple Screen-shots because some games divide their controls in separate menus.

After taking the screen-shot, exit the game, and either print out the map or pull it up on your PC/MAC.

Step 3: Removing the Keys

How-To WITH Key-Map:

Take the Key-Map and review which keys you are keeping.
Then take your flat-head screwdriver and pry off each key that is not being used. leave the keys that are being used on the keyboard.

How-To WITHOUT Key-Map:

Take your flat-head screwdriver and pry off each key you think you will not need (I.E. Parentheses )
Leave they keys that are being used on the keyboard.

Step 4: Laying Down the Cover (Optional)

To lay down the topping in Duct Tape, Simply Cut strands of it, and place on top. I recommend you cut each strip in half and lay it down that way (Lengthwise that is).

Make Multiple layers for better durability and improved look.

Step 5: Done!

Wasn't That easy? Now you will never hit the wrong key right before that multi-kill of yours!
