Are you looking for a beautiful tricorn hat but you don't want to spend an hand and a leg? Looks like you came to the right place for a cheap easy solution to your problem.

Step 1: Gather Materials

Materials list for the hat seen here:

6 decorative buttons

50 inches of 4 mm wide chain

wire cutters

hot glue gun

hot glue sticks

100 inches of trim for the brim

Any additional ribbons or trims that you want to include

3 inches of ribbon

1/2 yard of sheer fabric for back drape

1/4 yard of black lining

pins

womens floppy brim hat(4.5 in -5 in brim)

Step 2: Cuts and Folds

The first thing you need to do is measure your brim. Make sure that the brim is 4.5 inches wide. That will create the best look for this hat. If it's a 5 inch brim, just trim with scissors.

Then you'll need to figure out where your folds are going to go. Start by putting one pin at any point along your brim. Then measure around your brim to about 17 inches from that point and mark that with another pin(Each point should be roughly 17 inches from eachother). Then do the same thing one more time because we are creating 3 folds.

Step 3: Accessorize

Once you have your folds marked, you can start applying your details.

Start by gluing trim around the inside of the brim as well as the outside, letting the trim hang over the edge by a few millimeters. Finish that edge with your 3 inches of ribbon as seen in the picture.

Chain and buttons

You can also put a band around your hat. Just glue it all on. You can get decorative buttons to put on your hat like mine and drape chain across them like the one seen here. The buttons are just glued on. Have no fear. No sewing here!

Feathers

You can glue in feathers to the back brim before you glue down the back fold. It's all in the power of hot glue.

Fabric tail

If you'd like to add the fabric tail, take your half yard of fabric and pinch it by the center. You can safety pin that point of the fabric right on the back of the hat, as seen in the picture. I did not want it to be permanent on my hat, so I opted for safety pins.

Pirate ship

The pirate ship was glued into place on the hat. Then a black fabric lining was placed around it. Basically it was just layed in and glued down by most of the edges.

Secure your folds

Lastly, make sure to glue down those places where your pins were placed for your permanent folds.

Step 4: Finished

That's all there is to it. You've made a beautiful, quality hat that will last for many years to come. And it almost took you no time at all. And look at all that money you saved!
