Introduction: Replace BObi Pet's Edge Sensors

About: Hi, I am bObi -the latest addition to the bObsweep family! My fiancé Bob and I, love to clean! We are obsessed with making your floors shiny and dust-free. Enjoy my instructables guides and feel free to come …

bObi Pet has four edge sensors that let her know when she approaches a ledge. They are very important in bObi Pet's daily cleaning, especially in a space with stairs or multiple levels, as they help her avoid going over a ledge.

If you see error 1 on bObi Pet's remote and have already tried cleaning the edge sensors, a replacement may be necessary for bObi Pet's safety. This repair can be done from home with a Phillips head screwdriver and a new set of edge sensors for bObi Pet.

Step 1: Turn BObi Pet Off

Before we get started, turn bObi Pet OFF and flip her over onto a flat surface.

Next, remove bObi Pet's dustbin. Grip the small tab on the back of the bin, and pull to remove.

Step 2: Remove the Front Wheel

Grip the front wheel and pull straight up, using the screwdriver for leverage.

The wheel will pop out and you will see two screws beneath it.

There is a larger screw set deeper in the wheel compartment. Use the screwdriver to remove it. (Highlighted Blue)

Remember to keep all screws and parts removed from bObi Pet safely aside during the repair. They may be needed for re-assembly.

Step 3: Remove the Dustbin Holders

Remove the screws on both sides of bObi Pet’s dustbin. Then, remove the corner pieces that were held down by the screws.

Grip the brush compartment and pull down to reveal two screws on a red fastener.

Remove them with the screwdriver.

Step 4: Remove the Main Brushes

Pull the brush compartment up until the fastener is freed from bObi Pet. Then, detach the brush compartment's circuit plug and set it aside.

Remove the four screws located beneath the brush compartment.

Step 5: Remove the Cover Screws

Remove the two screws on the dustbin’s red fastener.

Remove the fastener and set it aside for reassembly.

The cover is no longer secured, so carefully flip bObi Pet onto her wheels.

Step 6: Detach the Cover

Lift the cover to reveal the main board underneath.

Remove the two circuit plugs connecting the lid to the mainboard. (Highlighted Blue)

bObi Pet's cover is entirely separated. Put the lid aside and you can start replacing the edge sensors.

Step 7: Disconnect the Circuit Plug

bObi Pet has four edge sensors along her front edge. (Highlighted Blue)

They attach to the left side of her mainboard. (Highlighted Yellow)

Pull to remove the circuit plug.

If there is glue holding down the wires, you may scrape it off using your screwdriver.

Step 8: Uninstall the Sensors

There is one screw holding each edge sensor in place. Remove all four screws and keep them aside for reassembly.

Step 9: Remove the Sensors From BObi Pet

Do not remove the clear covers from the two sensors closest to bObi Pet's front wheel. (Highlighted Orange)

If the cover gets stuck on the sensor, simply replace it on bObi pet.

Lift each of the sensor pieces out, and you'll be ready to install your new ones.

Step 10: Replace the Sensor Covers

The outer two sensors will have smaller clear covers attached. Make sure to remove these two covers and attach them to the outer sensors on your replacement part.

One cover will fit on the sensor with red and white wires.

The other should be placed on the sensor with red and brown wires.

Step 11: Connect the Sensors

Attach the sensors’ circuit plug to the mainboard. You should be able to tell where each sensor sits on bObi Pet by the length of its wires.

Step 12: Place the Sensor Pieces

Place your new edge sensors into the open spaces

The shortest wire with a cover attached should be placed in front of bObi Pet's left wheel.

The sensor with a green wire goes beside it. Then the yellow-wired sensor.

Then the final sensor and its cover will fit in front of bObi Pet's right wheel.

Step 13: Secure the Sensors

Re-install one screw onto each sensor.

You may add glue or electrical tape to the new circuit plug for a more secure hold.

Be sure to tuck any protruding wires into the crevices around the mainboard and you’ll be ready to close the cover.

Step 14: Reconnect the Cover

Attach the two circuit plugs from bObi Pet's cover back onto her main board.

The yellow-wired plug connects to the right side of the mainboard. (Highlighted Yellow)

The white-wired plug on bObi Pet’s lid connects to the middle of the mainboard. (Highlighted White)

Step 15: Align the Cover's Edges

Lay down bObi Pet's cover and line up the edges precisely.

While holding bObi Pet's top and bottom together, carefully flip her over onto a flat surface.

Step 16: Replace the Front Wheel

Reinstall the front wheel’s screw.

Then, place the front wheel on top and firmly push down to secure it.

Step 17: Secure the Cover

Replace the dustbin’s red fastener and install its 2 screws.

Install the 4 screws in the space beneath the brush compartment.

Step 18: Replace the Brushes

Plug in the brush compartment.

Then, replace its red brush fastener and install the 2 screws.

Step 19: Replace the Dustbin Holders

Position the brush compartment back in its original place on bObi Pet.

Now reinsert the corner pieces on both sides of the dustbin, with the arms of the brush attachment linked.

Step 20: Replace the Dustbin

Ensure the rubber strip near bObi Pet's dustbin is not stuck underneath the brush compartment. Then, reinstall the 2 screws in each of the corner pieces.

Make sure the bin can slide in easily before using bObi Pet again.

Congratulations on replacing bObi Pets edge sensors and happy cleaning!
