A few weeks ago my wife turned on her digital camera and discovered the LCD was broken. After ordering a replacement part I tried looking up how to repair this particular model and noticed a distinc lack of how to's. The repair was surprisingly quick and easy, so why not make my first instructable? Hope you enjoy it.

Step 1: Gather Tools and Parts

For this instructable you will need the following:

One Nikon Coolpix L22 with broken LCD
One replacement LCD
One size 10 Phillips-Head Screwdriver
One Small Flat-Head Screwdriver (exact size doesn't matter)
A place to put all the tiny screws so you don't lose them. I used a red SOLO cup.

Step 2: Remove the Case Screws

First remove the batteries and the memory card.
Start Disassembly with removal of the 7 case screws. Remember to put them in your container so they don't get lost.

Step 3: Pry the Case Apart

Use the Flat-Head screwdriver to very gently pry apart the case. It should go fairly easily. I found it easiest to start on the bottom where the tripod mount goes and slowly work my way around. The back plate should pop off easily.

Step 4: Remove the Broken Screen

After the back plate pops off you can lift the broken screen out. It is held in with little friction tabs. At this point the tray holding the screen must be removed. It is held in place with 4 Phillips Screws; some of them are under the little black pads which lift right off. The most difficult part is that the metal plate has to come out to get good access to the Ribbon Connector.

Step 5: Insert New LCD Ribbon

Insert the new screens ribbon. Simply lift the white clamp, slide the old one out and slide the new one in. The side with the exposed copper conductors goes down. Then when fully inserted close the clamp.

Step 6: Reinstall the Screen Holder

Next gently lay the screen out of the way so you can reinstall the plate. Be excedingly careful and gentle with the new screens ribbon; you don't want to ruin the new one. Once it is in gently reinstall the screen, it should drop right in with gentle but firm pressure along the edges. The ribbon will be in an S shape when you finish. Then don't forget to remove the protective film on the screen.

Step 7: Reassemble the Case

The back cover should simply snap back into place fairly easily. Just place back onto the camera and gently press into place. After that replace the screws, but do not over tighten.

Step 8: The Test

Put your batteries back in and turn the camera on. If it works then your good to go! If not you may need to open the unit back up and check the ribbon. If it doesn't turn on at all I wish you the best of luck.
