Introduction: Rethink the Mobile Handset

About: A long time Instructables lurker.. now pleased to be an Instructables worker,...as in; doing instead of doodling. This is easier now that I am 'semi' retired with more time to do stuff. My grandson is becom…

This is a concept presentation for the rethink phone contest.

The idea described is certainly feasible and could be manufactured as part of a next generation of mobile phones.

Step 1: My Notebook Thoughts

Here is a photo of my notebook in which I have set out a few thoughts. The intention being to re-think the phones interaction with the user.

Step 2: The Removable Handset

Of course there are blue tooth headsets that you can clip over your ear and wander around like Lt Uhura.

This is smaller, neater and can be readily stored away when not in use.

This idea is basically a return to the proven idea of the separate handset but updated for today's needs.

About the handset :

It would be a moulded integral part of the design.

The handset would be held in place by a simple click mount or possibly by magnets.

Controls for volume, etc would be incorporated as in the current headphones.

Pictures could be initiated by pressing the photo button (doubles with other buttons)

A soft stylus would be incorporated into one end to facilitate accurate drawing on the screen.

It would incorporate all the features of the Adobe Ink and slide.

It would link via magnets to an unobtrusive ear clip. (Or possibly to pierced ear mounts)

removing the bar from the phone would answer calls.

Replacing the bar would terminate calls.

Step 3: Conclusion

The question posed by the Seeed contest was to imagine a phone feature and describe it.

Not only would the concept described be more user friendly it could also drastically reduce the users exposure to phone radiation that has been shown to be bad with extended exposure.

I hope that this short 'ible has clearly shown the benefits of having an integral headset that is aesthetically pleasing and extremely functional.
