Side Table - Pallet Wood

Tools and Materials Needed:

Sand paper

Screw driver and drill

Pallet wood

Saw (table/circular/jig-either)

Step 1: Sort, Select and Cut to Size

I sorted out all my pallet wood and selected 6 pieces that were similar in appearance (color/type), width (2.5") and thickness (1/2").

Then using a saw I cut the excess, to make each piece 30" long.

Then I cut the 6 pieces in half.

I sorted the best 6 pieces for the top part of the shelf and the remainder for the bottom shelf.

Step 2: Assembly, Stain and Seal

I selected 2ea 15" pieces of wood and split them length wise, this gave me 4ea pieces, 15" long x 1/2" thick x 1-1/4" wide.

I leveled, hot glued and nailed these strips on either end of the top/bottom 6 shelf pieces.

Then I predrilled holes and screwed the leg posts onto all four corners of the shelves.

Once the table was assembled I hand sanded all visible surfaces. First with 80grit and then 220grit sand paper.

The sanded surfaces were then wiped with a clean rag and stained.

After wiping the excess stain off, I let the table sit for 4 hours before applying clear high gloss polyurethane sealer.

After 1hour I sanded the first coat and reapplied the polyurethane. That's it.

The table size is 15" x 15" x 20"

NOTE: If I had to do this again, I would sand, stain and seal all pieces before assembly.
