Introduction: Spicy Chai Recipe

About: Hi, I'm Jen! In my free time I'm a crafter, food lover, and cake decorator. I have a genuine love and appreciation for all things creative and handmade.

If you love spicy foods you are going to love this chai recipe! You should make it today, drink it up, and enjoy!

If you don't like spice DO NOT make this recipe! And in 'spice' I mean your lips are going to tingle (like you just ate hot wings) for 30 minutes after you drink it. It's so very delicious but seriously spicy!

An added bonus of this chai recipe is that all of the ingredients provide health benefits. I like to drink this in the winter months to boost my immune system when sickness is everywhere.

This is about a 10 minute process from start to finish.

Step 1: Recipe

To make spicy chai you need lots of yummy spices!

Spicy Chai

8 peppercorns

5 crushed cardamom pods

12 cloves

3 cinnamon sticks

2 whole star anise

1-2 sliced or broken vanilla beans (I used two because I love vanilla flavor but I know they are expensive so feel free to cut the amount down.

6 all spice berries

1/2 teaspoon fresh grated nutmeg

1 inch cube ginger, peeled and sliced

1 dried cayenne pepper, broken into pieces (optional if you want less spicy tea)

3 black tea bags

4 cups water (more if you prefer it less spicy)

Place all ingredients in a small saucepan and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Simmer 5-10 minutes. Keep in mind the longer the tea is simmered the spicier it will become.

Step 2: Straining

After the tea is done simmering, place a fine mesh strainer over a bowl or large measuring cup and strain the spices and tea bags from the liquid.

Step 3: Mix-Ins

Since this is such a spicy drink I like to add cream of some kind. My go to is organic coconut cream but heavy cream could also be used.

I typically add 1-2 tablespoons of cream and about 5 drops of liquid stevia (optional). Let it dissolve in the hot tea, sprinkle with a little cinnamon powder, and drink it till it's gone!
