Introduction: Tabl-Ella

This project was made by me and my colleague, Nitzan, for Ella Mor, as part of our industrial design studies at "HIT- Holon Institute of Technology".

Ella is also studying industrial design and needed a table to work and sketch on.

We made a folding table\tray for her wheelchair that she can use in school, and remove if she wants.

Step 1: List of Required Materials

Materials:

100/65cm Sheet of 6mm birch plywood

2X 4/10cm 3mm Acrylic sheets

1m 19mm Ø Steel pipe

2X 20CM 22mm Ø Steel pipes

2X 10CM Flat corner brace plate connectors

2X 5CM Flat corner brace plate connectors

4X Butt hinges

12X 15mm Rivets

8X M4 Screws + Bolts

2X 19mm caps

2 Neodymium Magnets

1 Hair band

Step 2: Cutting the Base Plate ,top Plate and Acrylic Handles

Use the attached files to cut the top plate, base plate and the acrylic handles via laser cutting or CNC Milling.

Step 3: Assembling

After cutting the parts, use wood glue to connect the anti-slip rims to the the top and bottom plates.

Step 4: Bending the Acrylic Handles

Heat and bend the acrylic handles as shown.

Step 5: Bending the Steel Pipe

Bend the 19mm Ø pipe using a pipe bending machine as shown

Step 6: Welding

Weld both of the 22mm pipes to the flat corner brace plate connectors as shown to make a hinge using the bent pipe.

Step 7: Assembling the Table

Use the rivets and screws to attach both of the plates to the height adjustment support piece, so it can be detached if needed.

Step 8: Magnets

The magnets are used to keep the table from falling aside when it is folded and not in use, they should be aligned with the steel pipe when in folded state.

Drill half way through the bottom plate according to your magnets' diameter . Apply glue and press the magnets in the holes.

Step 9: Hair Band

The hair bend is used to keep the table from opening when not in use.

Cut a thin hair band, insert through the hole as shown and tie beneath both of the holes.

Step 10: Finishing

We used a faux leather sheet to laminate the bottom plate and spray painted the top plate, and metal parts.
