Small Tentacle:
(make 3 using Cactus yarn)
ch 50, hdc 1, dc 2, sc 1, sl st back down remainder of chain

Step 3: Summoning Ring Pattern

Summoning Ring Pattern:
(make 1 using Stone yarn)

Note: This is a rather general pattern.  Please modify to suit your purposes.

To start, make two rings out of plastic canvas, one about 9" across, and the other about 6" across, each about 1.5" tall.  These will reinforce the walls of the summoning circle.  I suggest using two layers of plastic canvas for added stability.

To make the Outer Ring:
chain stitch enough stitches to go around the 9" plastic canvas ring. (I used about 120 stitches)

Round 1: ch 1, sc around, sl st to close round
Round 2: ch 1, sc around, sl st to close round
Round 3: ch 1, [sc 5, front post tr 1 in space 3 rows down] around, sl st to close round
Round 4: ch 1, working in back loops only, sc around, sl st to close round

Repeat Rounds 1 through 4 two more times, offsetting each repetition of the pattern by 3 stitches, fasten off

To make the Inner Ring:
make the same as the Outer Ring, only starting with enough stitches to fit in the inside of the 6" plastic canvas ring (I used about 93 sts)

To make the Top:
chain stitch the same number of stitches that you used for the Inner Ring, sl st to make a ring
sc around for 5 rounds, or the number required to fit the gap between the Inner and Outer Rings, increasing evenly up to the same number of stitches used in the Outer Ring

Assembly:
using Stone yarn, sl st around the inner and outer edges of the Top, working through the tops of the Inner and Outer Rings, respectively.

tack the plastic canvas rings into the interior of the crocheted Summoning Circle.

cut out another piece of plastic canvas, a bit larger around than the Inner Ring, but smaller than the Outer Ring.  Tack the Tentacles made in the previous step onto the plastic canvas.

set the tentacles into the center of the ring and tack onto the base of the Summoning Ring.

If desired, fill the remaining space in the Summoning Circle with "smoke" made with wool roving.

Step 4: Banner Pattern

Banner:
(make 2 using cherry yarn)

Row 1: ch 12, sc 11
Rows 2 through 43: ch 1, turn, sc 11
Row 44: ch 1, turn, sc 5
Row 45: ch 1, skip 1, turn, sc 4
Row 46: ch 1, sc 2, skip 1, hdc 1
Row 47: ch 1, skip 1, turn, sc 2
Row 48: ch 1, skip 1, hdc 1, fasten off

Join again in the next open stitch after the end of Row 44.
Row 49: ch 1, sc 5
Row 50: ch 1, turn, sc 3, skip 1, hdc 1
Row 51: ch 1, turn, skip 1, sc 3
Row 52: ch 1, turn, sc 1, skip 1, hdc 1
Row 53: ch 1, turn, skip 1, hdc 1, fasten off

sl st around edge of Banner using yellow embroidery floss
