Hello Everyone!

In this instructable, we will be installing a Wifi controlled RGB LED Strip for the interior of your car.

In this project, I will be using my own car (2010 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS) but the setup should work for most vehicles.

There are many interior LED kits that use the 12v accessory socket for power but this setup uses power from the car's fuse box.

Step 1: Parts

Components used in this project:

Sunix® Wireless WiFi RGB/RGBWWCW LED Controller

NEWSTYLE Black PCB Celebration LED Strip Lighting Waterproof Rope Lights 300 LEDs 5050 SMD RGB

Mini Standard Blade Fuse (Size may differ based on your vehicle)

Add-a-circuit Fuse TAP (Size may differ based on your vehicle)

uxcell® DC12V Red Lamp 4 Wire Latching Fog Light Switch (Mitsubishi Lancer)

wires & electrical tape

Step 2: Power Source

The Wifi controller uses 12-24V of electricity and its capable of 5 channels of output. Although this setup uses RGB LEDs, the setup can be modified to use Red, Green, Blue, Cool white & Warm white LEDs.

In order to power the Wifi controller, we need to find a power source that is active when the car is running. This power source should turn off when the car is turned off.

The best way to find the power source & the fuse box is to look through your car's owner manual.

For the 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS, the fuseblock is located below the steering wheel, above the knee airbags.

In order to gain unrestricted access to the fuseblock, I removed the large piece of plastic around the knee airbags. (please use caution when removing this piece of plastic because it is located next to the airbags)

According to my car's owner manual, the fuse slot #13 is used for the Accessory socket and it has 15A capacity. This power source is perfect for the Wifi LED controller.

Using the Fuse tap, I inserted two 15A Fuses into the 13th slot. This will power the positive (+) terminal of the Wifi controller.

The ground wire can be connected to any metallic surface inside the car.

(If you're using an OEM switch, the red positive (+) wire from slot #13 will connect to the red positive (+) wire of the switch and the positive (+) terminal on the Wifi controller.

The ground wire originating from any metallic surface inside the car must be connected to the Black (-) wire on the OEM switch.

The red wire in the middle of the OEM switch will connect to the GND (-) terminal of the Wifi controller.)

Step 3: Wiring the RGB LED

Once the Wifi controller has been powered up, the output slots can be assigned to various LEDs.

The controller has 5 channels, Red, Green, Blue, Warm white & Cool white.

In this project, I will be using Red, Green, Blue & Ground (GND).

Once you plug in all the wires, the controller will power up each channel in order to test the colours.

Although I used a switch to turn On/Off the LED controller, this is completely optional.

The LED strip can be wirelessly turned off using the App.

Step 4: Magic Home WiFi App

The app is available for download on Google play and iTunes store

Using this app, you can connect to the Wifi LED Controller.

Once your device is connected, you can wirelessly customize the LEDs.

Step 5: Done

After wiring, testing and pairing the Wifi controller, I was able to zip tie the controller near the fuse block. The LED strips can be mounted in various locations within your car's interior.

In this project, I simply ran the 5m LED strip under the centre console until it reached the bottom of the glove compartment.

If you have smaller LED strips, you can mount it below the fuse block using zip ties. (be extremely cautious when using wires around the brake/gas pedals as cable management is very important in this project)

As always, please feel free to make your own version of this project.
