Introduction: Wood Turning a Burl Bowl

Hey I'm Batmantwo and I'm a 15 year old who loves making things so here's my instrutable
When I think I of wood working i think of wood turning. This is a nice burl bowl that I turned on the lathe the pony problem with that is the lathe is that I don't have a lathe so I borrowed one and it was really shaky and doesn't stay still I would like a new one but don't have the money to buy a good quality here's a simple bowl that you could make with very little experience

Step 1: Cutting the Burl Into a Rough Circle

First decide on the size of the bowl you are going to make and draw it with a compass then Use drop saw to cut the burl into a rough circle Doing this will cut down on the vibration through the lathe and will make it easier and more enjoyable to turn

Step 2: Mounting the Face Plate

Using the centre that we found earlier mount the face plate in the centre of the wood and screw it on and mount it on the lathe

Step 3: Start the Rough Turning

Start rough turning the price of burl start by taking small and slow cut and slowly start to take more and faster cuts

Step 4: Hollowing Out the Burl Bowl

Hollowing the burl bowl will take some time you have to be patient and take your time because you don't want a big catch or it can ruin it very quickly

Step 5: Sanding

I started sanding a 80 then 120 then finished with 240grit the bowl needs to be smooth inside and out for the next step

Step 6: Finishing the Bowl

I finished the bowl with furniture oil once the oil has finished drying I applied a coat of polyurethane to protect the bowl from every day use
