# Ground wire connects in a series?

Interesting so the ground wire that connects 6v and 3v battery packs, is what connects them in a series in order to make the 9V? I assumed electricity only flow "out" from the ground wire, I guess that's not the case.

Definitely a more tricky setup

aaah so the ground wire from the 6v pack connecting to the + connection on the 3v pack is the equivalent of basically connecting 2 batteries in a series? Whereas the 2nd battery in the series connects to the first one (the one behind it), through ground as well, right?

Yes. It is connecting them in series.

If you think about what is happening inside of the battery pack, the + of one battery is getting connected to the - of the next. Each battery within the pack is basically a series connection and they get added together (1.5 + 1.5 + 1.5 + 1.5 = 6V and then 1.5 + 1.5 = 3V). What we are doing is just connecting two battery packs in series to form 9V (6V + 3V = 9V).

Great explanation, thank you
