Help needed to create a mask for a film project!

EDITED WITH WORKING LINKS

Hi,

I'm a university student in my final year studying film.  For my final project I'm doing a kind of modern take on the Theseus & the Minotaur myth. I looked around the web a bit and I found  this really awesome mask that could be used for  the Minotaur but I don't really know where to begin when it comes to making it.

I need help with everything in general - what materials might be best, how to construct it and stuff like that.

Alternatively, I was thinking of going for something more along this route maybe -

This would probably be easier - I'd start with a gas mask, I'd just need advice when it comes to creating the mane. Any other ideas are welcome too.

Thanks a lot for any help.

Fake fur shawls or scarfs may be a good bet for the mane hair.
Your second URL isn't working for me. The first one looks pretty easy though, it seems to be just a hood with some rags and lightweight horns attached, plus a black fabric panel over the face. I think the bulk of the construction could be done with hot glue, if sewing isn't your thing.
I'd be happy to discuss ideas with you if you want to use this design. If you can post a working URL for the other one, I can try to help with that one too.

Fixed the links and discussing the ideas would be awesome
Saw the second link, and yeah, that one's pretty cool too. The good news is that if I were to build that one, I'd build it almost exactly the same way as the first one. Really the only difference construction-wise is the gas mask instead of the black ski mask thing.
Actually you could simulate this one really easily with just a gas mask and one of those cheap "Rocker" wigs like they sell for Halloween costumes. The only fab you'd have to do would be the horns, and if you happen to have (or could find) a kid's plastic Viking helmet, you'd be golden. If not, the horns could be carved out of foam, built up out of aluminum foil & plaster bandage, sculpted in clay and cast in urethane resin, whatever you feel most comfortable doing. You could do the first one the same way, just use a black ski mask instead of the gas mask, and attach some bulky dreadlocky things to the wig cap. The possibilities are really endless.
Let me know which design you want to go with, and I'll see if I can come up with something helpful.

I think I'm definitely going to go with the second one, it kind of creates a more modern feel which is what I was going for .
Cool. If you want to kick some more ideas around, drop me an IM. If not, good luck and be sure to post an Instructable when you're done.

You could try and adapt this instructable:

It would be a good idea to base the mask around a helmet (like in the above), as you will need a rigid support for the minotaur horns.
