I feel like I'm not using my talents. Help?

I feel like I'm not using my talents and I'm dissatisfied.  I try to volunteer at a local food bank as often as I can and I help my friends with school when they need it.  I just feel like there's so much potential and I'm not doing anything with it.  I'm a senior in college studying genetics.  It's taken me a long time and a lot of hard work to amass this knowledge and I want to put it to good use.  So I know genetics, I'm handy with computers, I can use power tools well although I don't often have access to them, I keep up with world events (CNN every day), I have a little bit of money, and I like outdoor activities.  Can you help me come up with something to do that I can benefit society and preferably use my skill set that others may not necessarily have?  Thank you!

This is only my opinion:

1. Enjoy what your doing, if it isn't challenging enough - look for ways to stretch your skills and ability.

2. Strive to be at the top.

3. Plan where your going to be in 5 years, 10 years, 15 years.

4. Plan now to make a million+ $

5. Having made your millions plan on how your going to do something with it to change the world for others.

I've often thought of starting a workshop open to the homeless or emotionally distressed (with supervision, screening, what have you), and I wanted to focus on teaching instrument building (simple, like tin can banjos and difficult, like mt. dulcimers, or whatever.

I would constantly be using some of my skills. I would feel more purpose in my use of my skills. I would be teaching, which tests skills further and helps us learn even more. The attending individuals would be learning, gaining confidence, gaining useful life skills, gaining a sense of accomplishment (which is severely needed with many homeless and emotionally distressed people) and, if the focus is musical instruments, they could end up with a playable instrument they may otherwise not be able to afford, have the possibility of learning to play, and have more possibility of gaining confidence and feelings of self worth, along with a useful avenue of self-expression and an emotional outlet.

...Just a specific idea of something that uses skills to help people...

Thank you for replying. Some replies were helpful while others... well they were less than helpful to put it gently. To the person who pointed out I am like Bill Gates working at Walmart- I didn't ask my question to hear it blown back to me in the wind. I understand I'm underutilizing my skill set- hence the question
To the person who told me to specialize in my field. Thank you for your reply, it's something to consider however at my college of 34,000 students the graduating class in genetics is only ~30. I could be more specialized but I'd say compared to many other professions I'm pretty specialized as it is.
To the person that replied with quotes. I think quotes can be great and educational but three of the quotes express that talent is cheap, unsuccessful, and unstable- hardly inspiring.
Finally, to the person who pointed out that I am nowhere near the peak of my knowledge. I understand this yet I have a passion for volunteering and helping others. I asked the question to seek some useful answers not to hear that there is nothing that I can do for now.
To everyone else, thank you for your comments, they are well received. I thought rickharris had the best suggestion, thanks!
Your welcome.

so your majoring in Genetics and your volunteering in a food bank?
Thats like bill gates being a walmart door greeter.

IF you like genetics then how about volunteering in the health care field like at a children hospital.

Know your field and avoid the most crowded specialities

example = I didn't work to be proficient in C programming as there are a hundred thousand  such programmers I didn't want as competition.

Instead I do straight machine code on several MPUs.
This lets me outperform C in speed and program size every time ! :-)

Do the same in genetics.

...but talent is a dreadfully cheap commodity, cheaper than table salt. What separates the talented individual from the successful one is a lot of hard work and study; a constant process of honing. Talent is a dull knife that will cut nothing unless it is wielded with great force...
Stephen King

It is a very rare thing for a man of talent to succeed by his talent.
Joseph Roux

To THINK BIG and to use our talent doesn't mean we don't have difficulties on the way. We will - we all do. How we view those problems determines how we end up.
Ben Carson

Men of splendid talents are generally too quick, too volatile, too adventurous, and too unstable to be much relied on; whereas men of common abilities, in a regular, plodding routine of business, act with more regularity and greater certainty. Men of the best intellectual abilities are apt to strike off suddenly, like the tangent of a circle, and cannot be brought into their orbits by attraction or gravity — they often act with such eccentricity as to be lost in the vortex of their own reveries. Brilliant talents in general are like the ignes fatui; they excite wonder, but often mislead. They are not, however, without their use; like the fire from the flint, once produced, it may be converted, by solid, thinking men, to very salutary and noble purposes.

You're a college student, believe it or not, you are nowhere near the pinnacle of your skill set. You know "something" of genetics, sure. Come back after the masters, Phd and some post-doc and you may be useful in genetics.....

Teach classes lower down the school?

With your skill set, I'd suggest the U.S. Peace Corps.
