Reclaimed Wood in NYC?

Does anyone have information on getting reclaimed wood in NYC? I'm looking to do some projects with old wood but it seems like you have to order a lot of it to get it delivered. Are there any places that will let you just get a couple of pieces? If there are other people in the city that are also interested what about pooling our resources and ordering a bunch of reclaimed wood? I may be able to supply some storage space for it to be delivered and for while we sort it out amongst ourselves. Thanks!

I work for a company that has been in the reclaimed business for over thirty years. One could argue that we pioneered the business. Our company controls every aspect from taking down old structures to custom precision milling. If you have any questions please write me and I can give more details. We supply the world.
I have floor beams 4"x14" 18' yellow pine 120 years approximately 10,000 pieces
do you know any company that would be inetersted to buy ?

Did you ever sell the beams? I am interested if you have any

I've used from them too and I got exactly what I needed! I was tearing up my flooring in New York City NY and I was going to use that wood but found this website instead and am very happy with how they treated me as a customer! They were exactly what I needed! Good luck!
I am a furniture maker in NYC possibly looking for a new supplier of reclaimed lumber. I make most of my pieces from ash. Do you have reclaimed ash? and if so, how much do you charge? I need 8/4 and 6/4. Thanks Andrew
Have you checked out Build It Green!NYC? We have some great options for reclaimed lumber (along with two warehouses full of salvaged building materials one in Queens and another in Brooklyn!). Check out our lumber options here: http://bignyc.org/inventory/lumber - plus our Astoria Reuse Center is open everyday!

Some years back I heard about a large warehouse somewhere in Brooklyn (near the east river) that retailed recycled construction materials. I don't recall what it was called or know if it is still there. I guess that wasn't much help.
hi, it's http://www.bignyc.org/frontpage BUILD IT GREEN NYC
it's got some stuff, but not as awesome as it sounds. you'll definately have to pick through to find some stuff. best bet is to call ahead.

craigslist craigslist craigslist. before i discovered pine floors under carpeting, i researched on craigslist and found a ton. ok, admittedly, i wasn't looking to have it shipped, but surely there are some out there. in specific, check connecticut postings, as there were a bunch of old tabacco barn owners unloading a bunch of wide-plank wood flooring, which i imagine in gorgeous.

I found that shipping pallets are not always made of cheap softwoods. If you can use pieces that are about 1 yard (91 CM) and maybe varying in thickness from 1 CM to 1.5 CM, with nail holes in them, you can use pallet wood. You can also cut those down between the nail holes for smaller projects. Also, some windfall woods, like Elm or Paulownia can easily be cured. The rule of thumb for that is one year for each inch of thickness.
Taunton press has a good book on harvesting and curing windfall wood.

I have several thousand feet of reclaimed type 1 Cypress for sale and am willing to ship smaller quantities.Contact me for a quote at JRFurnia@msn.com.
I currently have an old (100 yrs.) barn that coming/falling down. Any idea who would want it or what I could do with the wood?
I'm not in NYC..but I need some reclaimed wood in the Orlando area...if anyone knows a place..
I realize it has been almost a year since your comment. I work for a company that goes out and takes down old structures and sells the reclaimed wood. I will be in Orlando the first of 2009. If you would like to discuss further please respond.--Richard

This probably belongs in the "resources" forum. But it's good to know. My sister's in art school (Pratt) in NYC, and she always needs those sort of supplies.

We're in Hoboken in a turn of the century apartment turned condo and I'm looking for someone to take some of our old wood. We're reusing as much as we can and I don't want the rest to go to a landfill. Finishes beautiful - 100 year old oak and pine. Free to a good home. Must show up at the time we agree on. I have a little baby and can't be hanging around a construction site with her all day. I also have a vintage Kohler double farmhouse sink on a metal cabinet. This is also free to a good home. It's in working condition, needs glazing, comes with an original chrome faucet and Kohler branded drain board. MUST be able to uninstall and haul away. jl_strong@hotmail.com
Here' how i get reclaimed lumber. I stop where they're doing remodeling, say "Hey can I dig through the garbage pile?" If they say yes, good to go. Recommend gloves and an up to date tetanus shot. I just finished a project which I'll be posting soon out of recycled pine 1x12's. PS stealing, even garbage, from a construction site in Florida is a felony.
Check out these articles. Also, M Fine Lumber on Metropolitan Ave (I think Bushwick) sells reclaimed lumber.
