Introduction: Build This Solar Powered Hydroponic Water Garden on Wheels - MUST READ!

Build this amazing solar powered, completely self contained hydroponic garden and grow the largest flowers,the tastiest fruits and vegetables that you can actually live on year round. Designed for outdoor use it can just as easily be used indoors. This machine can be built in a few hours and is designed to work for years. A basic garden system can be built for less then $200.00 and most materials can be purchased from your local hardware store or I can make it and send it to you.

So what makes this system amazing? Options, Features, Low cost to own and this system really, really works. I built this system several years ago and after engineering out many failures, I am now growing non stop, year round and the results are unreal. I have harvested in the past year on the one system pictured above hundreds of Okra, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, garden beans, squash, peas. It is this success why I share this with the world.

The system pictured is made up of 4 sections:

1) The Main System includes the plant silo's, drain piping, pump, reservoirand represents a basic garden system. It is stand-alone and will grow fantastic plants. A basic system is made of the following: 11 plant silos, drain piping, reservoir, 120 volt fountain pond pump and 120 volt timer.

2) The Cart is designed to hold the plant silo/drain piping, reservoir and canopy. The cart is made to be heavy duty, can easily hold a 25 gallon reservoir and is on wheels. Being on wheels you can easily move the entire system to other locations quickly.

3) The Canopy has several functions: 1) Secures the solar panel(s) 2) Holds grow lights and/or night lights 3) Used instead of stakes to hold the plants up and 4) Depending on needs the entire system can be covered over the canopy with screen and or plastic sheeting to create a greenhouse.

4) The Electrical system can be as simple as a fountain pond pump connected to a timer plugged into wall outlet or like the system pictured: 12 volt 75 watt solar panel, 12/24 volt 30amp solar controller, 12 volt 24 hour timer(s), Self priming 12 volt 3 amp high pressure water pump, 12 volt 2 or 3 amp 500+ Gallon per hour bilge pump and 12 volt 36 amp battery

Step 1: Build the Cart

Assumptions:

Builder knows how to cement PVC with precision

The 2" PVC pipe is cut correctly/precision

Perfect flat surface from which to build

Tools Required:

Rubber Mallet - used to tap the pipes into place

Wrench - used to tighten wheel nut(s)

Parts Required:

2.5 x 2" x 10'(305cm) PVC pipe thick, cut into sizes below:
- 9 x 47cm

- 4 x 40cm

- 2 x 30cm

- 16 x 6cm

8 x 2" PVC cross slip

8 x 2" PVC 90 degree elbow slip

10 x 2" PVC tee slip

4 x 2" PVC slip x 1/2" FPT reducer/bushing

4 x 3"+ Caster Wheels-with large bolt Heavy Duty

4 x Nuts that fits above bolt on wheel

Materials Required:

PVC cement

PVC cleaner

Step 1 - Make the Cart corners, 8 total - Precision Alignment Required!!!

- Step 1a - Cement 2 x 2" x 6cm pvc pipe opposite sides of a 2" pvc cross slip

- Step 1b - Cement 1 x 2" elbow slip perpendicular to one side 1a

- Step 1c - Cement 1 x 2" tee slip to opposite side also perpendicular to cross

- Repeat Step 1 to make 8 total

Step 2 - Combining corners for top shelf - Precision alignment required

- Step 2a - Cement 1 x 2" x 30cm pvc pipe into long side of 1c(cart corner)

- Step 2b - Cement another 1c to other side of 2a

- Repeat Step 2 to make 2 total

Step 3 - Combining corners for bottom shelf - Precision alignment required

- Step 3a - Cement 2 x 2" x 6cm pvc pipe to opposite sides of 1" tee slip

- Step 3b - Cement a 1c to one side of 3a

- Step 3c - Cement another 1c to other side of 3b

- Repeat Step 3 to make 2 total

Step 4 - Add ribs to one side of bottom shelf and combine other side - Precision alignment required

- Step 4a - Cement 5 x 2" x 47cm to a 3c

- Step 4b - Cement other 3c to 4a

Step 5 - Add ribs to one side of the top shelf and combine other side- Precision alignment required

- Step 5a - Cement 4 x 2" x 47cm to a 2b

- Step 5b - Cement other 2b to 5a

Step 6 - Combining the top and bottom shelves- Precision alignment required

- Step 6a - Cement 4 x 2" x 40cm to 4b(bottom shelf)

- Step 6b - Cement 5b(top shelf) to 6a

Step 7 - Make the wheels, 4 total

- Step 7a - Push wheel bolt through threaded side of 2" slip x 1/2" FPT, screw on nut and tighten, very tight.

- Step 7b - Push wheel into 2" openings on underside of bottom shelf (Gluing not needed)

Step 2: Build the Main System (Plant Silos, Drain Piping, Pump System and Reservoir)

Assumptions:
Builder watched the building video for each step: for steps 1 & 2

Builder knows how to cement PVC with precision

All PVC pipe is cut correctly/precision

Perfect flat surface from which to build

Tools Required:

Rubber Mallet - used to tap the pipes into place

Drill - drill multiple holes, create notch for plant silo's and used with sockets to tighten nuts

Materials Required:

PVC cement

PVC cleaner

Step 1 - Build the plant silo's, 11 total are required

Parts Required:

1 x 4" x 10' PVC pipe cut into sizes below:

- 11 x 10.5"

- 1 x 2"

11 x 4" x 2" reducer slip

11 x 2" slip x 1" FPT reducer/bushing

Step 1a - Cement 4" x 10.5" PVC pipe into 4" x 2" reducer slip. Make sure pipe goes all the way in and hold for 10 seconds because the cement tends to push the pipe out.

Step 1b - Cement 2" slip x 1" FPT(Female Pipe Thread) into 4" x 2" reducer at 2" side

Step 1c - Drill/Cut 1/4" x 1/2" notch into top of the 4" PVC pipe.

Repeat Steps 1a and 1c to make 11 total

Step 2 - Drain Piping

Parts Required:

1 x 1" x 10' pvc pipe thick, cut into sizes below:

- 20 x 5cm

- 1 x 6cm

- 1 x 7cm

- 12 x 10cm

- 4 x 15cm

Step 2a - Create stems, cement 1" x 5cm PVC pipe into 1" slip x 1" MPT(Male pipe thread) repeat to make 18 total

Step 2b - Create drain T's

- Step 2b1 - Cement 2 x 1" x 10cm pvc pipe to both long sides of 1" tee slip

- Step 2b2 - Cement 1" x 15cm pvc pipe to 2b1

- Repeat Steps 2b1 and 2b2 to make a total of 4 drain T's

Step 2c - Combine drain T's to make 2 x 5 port drainage backbones

- Step 2c1 - Cement 3 x 1" slip tee's longways to a 2b so that the 1" slip tee's are perpendicular 2b

- Step 2c2 - Cement 2 x 1" slip tee's into a 2b on the Tee part perpendicular to tee

- Step 2c3 - Cement step 2c1 and 2c2 to make an H (5 port drain backbone)

- Repeat 2c1 to 2c3 to make 2 total

Step 2d - Create drain line

- Step 2d1 - Cement 2 x 10cm to 1" cross slip on opposite sides

- Step 2d2 - Cement 1" x 7cm pvc pipe to one side of 2d1, set aside

- Step 2d3 - Cement 2 x 10cm pvc pipe to 1" cross slip on opposite sides

- Step 2d4 - Cement 1" x 5cm pvc pipe to one end of 2d3

- Step 2d5 - Cement 1" tee slip to end of 2d4 align tee perpendicular to 1" cross

- Step 2d6 - Cement 1 x 1" x 5cm pvc pipe to 1" tee on one long side

- Step 2d7 - Cement 2d6 to 1" slip x 1" slip x 1/2" FPT at a 135 degree angle *** VERY IMPORTANT***

- Step 2d8 - Cement 2d2 to 2d7 so that the top of the 1" tee is perpendicular to the 1" cross

- Step 2d9 - Cement 1" x 6cm pvc pipe to 2d5

- Step 2d10 - Cement 2d9 to 2d5 so that 2d5 is perpendicular to 2d9

Step 2e - Combine backbones to drain line to make drain pipe system

- Step 2e1 - Cement one drain T(2c) to one side of drain line(2d)

- Step 2e2 - Cement other drain backbone to other side of drain line

Step 2f - Cement 2a Male thread stems to the 18 open 1" slips on 2e

Step 3 - Create pump mounting and distributor

Materials Required:

2 x #4 stainless steal adjustable hose clamp

1 x 6' x 3/4" FHT x 3/4" FHT washer hose-(90 degree on one side if possible) - cut 10" from end

2 x 5 pack adjustable dripper

1 x 12v x 3amp Self priming pump - 36w/ Mounting bolts below/or 120v equal fountain

Primary Intake filter - Parts below:

1 x 2" Cap slip

Step 3a - cut 10 x 3' and 1 x 1" lengths of 1/4" irrigation rubber tubing

Step 3b - Make pump distributor housing

- Step 3b1 - Drill using 9/32" drill bit to create 5 holes along the center line 2 cm apart, repeat on other side

- Step 3b2 - Drill hole using 13/16" drill bit into dead center top of cap(3b1)

- Step 3b3 - Drill using 5/32" bit, 4 holes that match the mounts on the pump

- Step 3b4 - Push/thread the 10 x 3' lengths through the 10 x 1/4" holes in cap

- Step 3b5 - Use plumbers tape on 1/2" slip x 1/2" MPT and screw onto 9 port manifold

- Step 3b6 - Cement 1/2" pvc pipe x 15cm to the 1/2" slip side of 3b5

- Step 3b7 - Push 3b6 through underside of 3b4

- Step 3b8 - Cement 1/2" slip x 3/4" MHT (Male hose thread) to 1/2" pvc pipe on top of 3b7 and push down and cement around top stem

- Step 3b9 - Push 8 of the 1/4" tubing in 3b8 onto the barbs on the 9 port manifold, using 1/4" tee push the two remaining tubes to the top of tee, push 1/4" x 1" tube onto bottom of tee then push onto remaining barb

- Step 3b10 - Using Velcro wrap the tubing above the barbs

- Step 3b11 - Push the 10 adjustable dripper's onto the outside of 1/4" tubes

Step 3c - Mount SPP pump

- Step 3c1 - Create pump mount stems by pushing 1.5" bolt with lock washer from the inside out, secure with star nut and tighten, very tight

- Step 3c2 - place washers on stems push pump mounts onto stems, push washers over mounts secure with lock nuts

- Step 3c3 - Cut 1 x 6' x 3/4" FHT x 3/4" FHT washer hose 10" from one side

- Step 3c4 - Secure long side of 3c3 to input side of pump with 1/2" hose clamp

- Step 3c5 - Secure short side of 3c4 to output side of pump with 1/2" hose clamp

Step 3d - Make main filter

- Step 3d1 - Drill 13/16" hole through top center of 2" cap slip

- Step 3d2 - Cut 10cm x 50cm filter media

- Step 3d3 - Cement 1/2" x 4cm pvc pipe to slip side of 1/2" slip x 3/4" MHT

- Step 3d4 - Cement 3d3 to 3d1 by pushing 1/2" pvc pipe through top of cap, cement around the top

- Step 3d5 - Cement 2" x 11cm pvc pipe into 3d4

- Step 3d6 - Rollup 3d2(filter media) and stuff inside 3d5

Step 4 - Make Reservoir - On the top of the 10+ gallon cooler lid cut 4.5" x all the way through, hole off-center then push 4" x 2" pvc pipe through and with silicon glue(non-clear), glue in place

Step 4 - Make Reservoir - Using 12 gallon planter with foam cut to fit

Step 3: Build the Canopy

Step 1 - Make 18 wire disconnects for timer, solar controller, solar panel(s) and battery

- Step 1a - Cut 8 x 5" x 16 gauge red wire, strip both sides

- Step 1b - Cut 10 x 5" x 16 gauge black wire, strip both sides

- Step 1c - Crimp Female/Male disconnects to make:

- - 2 x Female x copper, black *solar controller

- - 2 x Male x copper, red *solar controller

- - 2 x Female x Female, black *timer

- - 1 x Female x Male, black *timer

Step 4 - Make solar panel connectors/adapters

Step 5 - Make wire connections for solar panel (10ft.)

- Step 5a - Cut 1 x 10' x 16 gauge red and black, strip both sides

- Step 5b - Crimp Female x Male red and Crimp Male x Female black

- Step 5c - Place wires into protective split wire tubing close each end with small wire tie

Step 6 - Make wire connections for main pump (8ft.)

- Step 6a - Cut 1 x 8' x 16 gauge, red and black, strip both sides

- Step 6b - Crimp Female x Male red and Crimp Male x Female black

- Step 6c - Place wires into protective split wire tubing close each end with small wire tie

Step 7 - Crimp connectors onto bilge pump extend if needed to 8'

Step 5: Putting It Altogether

Step 1 - Install reservoir in cart

Step 2 - Install drain pipe system

Step 3 - Apply plumbers tape to all 18 stems

Step 4 - Install 1" FPT Caps on all sides and overflow (7 total)

Step 5 - Install plant silo's

Step 6 - Install pump distributor

Step 7 - Install canopy pillars

Step 8 - Install canopy top

Step 9 - Install Solar Panel

Step 10 - Install Solar panel tilt adjuster

Step 11 - Twist on, 1/2" MPT cap to 8 x 1/2" FPT on canopy

Step 12 - Install top 10' x 4 wire with connectors and connect to solar panel

Step 13 - Install bilge pump - gently drop pump into reservoir to bottom bring out wiring

Step 14 - Connect 8' disconnect cable to main pump

Step 15 - Install main filter - twist onto FHT hose on long side of main pump

Step 16 - Install drain hose - use plumbers tape on either 3/4" FHT or 3/4" MHT x 1/2" MPT and twist on 1' hose x the matching gender

Step 17 - Use hook and loop Velcro tape, tighten/organize wires

Step 18 - Connect and tighten battery terminals wiring

Step 19 - Place 12v x 20amp+ battery into a battery holder or modified small cooler, modify by cutting hole on top lid or side for wiring to enter

Step 20 - Connect wiring: Timer, Solar controller, solar panel, Main and Bilge pump in series to timer Step 21 - Cover Battery case and place on cart

*Not Required *Step 22 - Install plant holder/stake extensions

*Step 23 - Extend height

- Step 23a - Disconnect tilt adjuster, Solar panel wire connectors, velcro and any others

- Step 23b - Remove Solar panel and Canopy

- Step 23c - Remove pillars, 2" x 1" reducer slip from pillars and add to 2' extensions, Put 2' extensions in cart and put pillars on extensions for all corners
