Every year around Easter time I see many decorated eggs. Some of them are really beautiful and unique, but I'm not so good at painting so I wanted to find something different this year.
So here is the idea I came up with: a cute eggholder that dresses eggs up! This way the egg is decorated and holded at the same time.

I created a bunny egg holder and a chick egg holder. I used basic stitches for them and they are both very easy to do.
I'm going to show you how to make the bunny one. The chick egg holder is very similar so I didn't take step by step photos for it, but let me know if you want me to do that!

Step 1: What You Need

white cotton thread n° 3
pink cotton thread n° 3
crochet hook n°4 - 1.75
white wool
piece of cardboard
needle and white sewing thread
scissors

List of stitches:

chain stitch
slip stitch
single crochet - sc
half double crochet - hdc
double crochet - dc

Step 2: Hat and Bottom - Part 1

Chain 3 using your white thread and create a circle making a slip stitch in the first chain.

Round 1: make 6 sc all around the circle and slip stitch in the first sc.
Round 2: make 2 sc in each stitch around for a total of 12 sc.
Slip stitch in first sc.

Round 3: *make 2 sc in next stitch and 1 sc in the next one*
Repeat from * to * all around.
Round 4: *make 2 sc in next stitch and 1 sc in each of the next 2 ones*
Repeat from * to * all around.
Round 5: *make 2 sc in next stitch and 1 sc in each of the next 3 ones*
Repeat from * to * all around.
Round 6: *make 2 sc in next stitch and 1 sc in each of the next 4 ones*
Repeat from * to * all around.

Step 3: Hat and Bottom - Part 2

Round 7-10: make 1 sc in each stitch around.
Your work will start to close and form the classic hat shape.

When you are done with round 10, secure and cut the thread.

This is one of the 2 parts of your bunny. Make another one now, just like this one.

Step 4: The Ears - Part 1

Chain 5 using your pink thread.
Make 1 sc in each stitch starting from the second chain from hook. You'll have a total of 4 sc.

DON'T turn your work now, keep making more sc all around the strip: make a couple of sc in the curve and make other 4 sc on the side.
Again, make 2 sc on the curve and keep making more sc until you reach the other end.

Step 5: The Ears - Part 2

Insert the white thread now and cut the pink one making sure that it's secured.
Keep making more sc all around the curve and on one side. Always remember to make 2 sc where the work is round. This way it will remain flat.
When you finally reach the second curve, make 2 hdc, 1 chain and 1 dc all in the same stitch.
Now do the opposite in the next stitch: 1 dc, 1 chain, 2 hdc.

Keep making 1 sc in each of the next stitches.
Slip stitch at the end of the round.

Step 6: Ears and Feet

The ear shape would be fine, but it's still too small. For this reason you need to make one more round all around it.
To do this, keep making 1 sc in each stitch, but make sure to make double sc where the curves are.

Slip stitch at the end of the round, secure and cut the thread.

This is the first ear. You need to make another one now.

The bunny's feet are made just like its ears. The only difference is that you need just one color for them.
So, follow steps 4, 5 and 6 to make 2 white feet.
All you need is white thread this time.

Step 7: The Hat

Let's finish the hat now.

Prepare some white sewing thread and insert it in the needle.
Take the hat piece (made in step 3) and sew both ears on top of it.
Sew them in a way that they stand still on the hat.

The bunny hat is done!

Step 8: The Bottom

You need to sew the feet to the bottom part now.
Always use the white sewing thread for this and sew both feet as you see in the pictures.
They need to be placed in the middle of the bottom, turning the right one a little on the right and viceversa.

Step 9: The Pom Pom Tail - Part 1

The bunny's tail is a tiny pom pom.

To do this, cut 2 small discs out of cardboard. They need to have a diameter of about 1,5cm (0.59 inches).
Make a hole in the middle of both.

Now pass a white wool thread in both holes and start to "sew" the 2 discs together using a needle. The wool must pass through the hole multiple times to be able to cover the whole disc's surface.
After a while the hole will be so full of wool that you'll have a hard time passing the needle through it, but don't give up!
Put as much wool as you can. The more you put, the better your pom pom will look.
Cut the thread when you think it's enough. You don't need to make a knot so don't worry about it.

Cut the wool all around the discs now (see photos). Try to be as accurate as possible.

Step 10: The Pom Pom Tail - Part 2

When you are done cutting, you'll have the 2 discs in the middle and the wool on the sides.
Cut a small piece of thread and tie the wool making a knot in the middle, where the discs are.
Don't cut the exceeding thread!

Now cut out the cardboard discs, being very careful not to cut the wool.
Finally, adjust your pom pom and trim where needed...
Pom pom ready!

Insert the 2 long threads in the back of the bottom part. I used a needle to do this. Don't insert both threads in the same hole, insert one first and then make another hole to insert the second one.
Use those 2 threads to tie the pom pom tail to the bottom part making a knot.
Now you can finally cut out the exceeding threads.

The bottom is done too!

Step 11: Dress Up Your Eggs!

Everything is done now!
All you need to do is placing an egg on the bottom part and add the hat on top of the egg.
You can also draw a bunny face on the egg like I did.
