Introduction: DIY Erupting Volcano

This instructable is very fun to make/do. It has a simple process and uses everyday household items. The effect turns out to be pretty cool! Some of you will probably think the effect is just stupid and pathetic because it doesn't do a full on "blast out of the water bottle" trick, and that's ok. I liked doing/making this project and I hope you do too.

Step 1: Gather the Materials

Gather Materials:

1. Vinegar

2. Dish Washing Soap

3. An empty, plastic, and clear water bottle (regular sized, not a little or extra big one)

4. A glass

5. Baking Soda

6. Red food coloring

7. A funnel

If you wish to make a "dough" to make a mold around the water bottle to make it look like an actual volcano, skip to step 8 and then skip back to here to do the experiment.

Step 2: Warm Water

Fill your glass with warm water. In the picture, it looks a little bit like apple juice, but its water. It just looks like that because of the lighting and color of the glass, pink (please do not judge).

Step 3: Food Coloring

Put some of the red food coloring in the water and mix with a spoon.

Step 4: Pouring

Using the funnel, pour the food colored water into the water bottle. The water bottle has to be about 7/8 full so you might have to repeat steps two, three, and this one depending on the size of your glass. I had to refill mine just one more time.

Step 5: Dish Washing Soap

Now add six drops of your dish washing soap to the water bottle. I do not have a picture because the soap makes it look no different (at least it didn't for me).

Step 6: Baking Soda

Add 2 tablespoons (tbsp) of baking soda. Again, using the funnel.

Step 7: Pouring the Vinegar/The Effect

Finally, using the funnel, pour the vinegar in the bottle SLOWLY. It will start rising up out of the bottle as soon as it hits the liquid, so take the funnel away from the bottle quickly to see it erupt. Just ignore the voices in the video (don't worry, we are not swearing or saying anything bad).

Step 8: Gather Materials for Mold

I will not have any pictures for the mold because I did not have all the materials needed.

Gather Materials:

1. Flour

2. Salt

3. Cooking Oil

4. Water

5. A mixing bowl

For some reason, there was no cooking oil in the house.

Step 9: Flour

In the mixing bowl, pour six cups of flour.

Step 10: Salt

Then, add two cups of salt.

Step 11: Cooking Oil

Next, add four tablespoons (tbsp) of cooking oil.

Step 12: Water

Finally, add two cups of water.

Step 13: Mixing

Mix them all together and you should eventually get a good, flexible "dough" that you can then shape around the water bottle and then do the experiment. To do the experiment, go back to step 1.
