Introduction: Doctor WHOokies

Finding the perfect shape for cookies has never been easier than it is with Makerbot. After printing an amazing set of Doctor Who cookie cutters (designed by dgwilson) for a friend I thought I’d try my hand at fancy decorative baking, not my usual project but I think it turned out well.

Step 1: Ingredients

I followed the recipe from Nigella Lawson with some minor changes. Here’s my version:

Cookies

¾  cup (1½ sticks) unsalted butter, softened
¾  cup sugar
2 large eggs
1  tsp. vanilla extract (follow this Instructable to make your own!)
2 cups AP flour, plus more if needed
1  tsp. baking powder
1  tsp. salt
1 3D printed TARDIS cookie cutter
2 baking sheets, lined with parchment paper
1 bottle blue gel paste food coloring

Frosting

2  Tbsp. hot water
1  cup confectioner’s sugar

Step 2: Cream 'em

Start by creaming your butter and sugar until it becomes a light and fluffy mixture.

Step 3: Make Them TARDIS Blue

Add a small amount of food coloring (start with less than you think you’ll need, coloring strength can vary and while you can always add-to you can’t take-out), mix thoroughly adding more food coloring if necessary to achieve desired color.

Step 4: Bring on the Eggs

Mix in eggs & vanilla extract (preferably Uncle Chris’ Fancy Vanillin Extract).

Step 5: Bring on the Dry Team

Combine flour, salt and baking soda in a large bowl and mix to combine.

Step 6: Let Them Sleep With the Snowmen

Split dough into 2 flat discs and chill in the fridge for at least an hour.

Step 7: Roll Out

Pre-heat oven to 350.

Lightly flour work surface and rolling pin. Keep your rolling pin floured as this dough can be a bit sticky. Roll 1 disc of dough to 1/4″ thick.

Step 8: Give Them the Cut

Use the cookie cutter to cut out the cookies, then lightly press the cookie stamp into each cookie.

Step 9: Send Them Around the Sun

Throw these in your preheated oven (you set it to 350 right?) and bake for 8-12 minutes.

Step 10: Ice to Meet You

While the cookies are cooling you can go ahead and make your icing. Mix the hot water and confectioners sugar in a bowl. You can add more sugar if the icing is too thin, or more water if it's too thick.

Then pour your icing into a piping bag, or do like I did and pour it into a zip-top bag and cut off the corner.

Step 11: Finishing

After the cookies are completely cool it's time to ice them. On my first batch I added the windows and signage (as close as I could) to match the TARDIS. The second batch got a slightly lazier drizzle (though they were equally delicious).

Now pack a few of these up and go on an adventure (watch out for Daleks)!
