Introduction: Donut Hole Roulette

About: I'm an animation director by day and Queen of the monsters by night. I picked up most of my costume and prop building skills through hands on experimentation with materials. Experimentation led to addiction,…

Simple but effective! Seeing seamster's donut prank the other day reminded me of a prank my buddy and I pulled off at New Year's party in college. Follow these easy steps to give grazing party-goers a little surprise (and a little distrust for humanity).

Step 1: You Will Need...

Assorted Donut Holes (base your quantity on your prank venue)

Hot Sauce (2 options pictured here). The hotter the better! You could also use a spicy mustard or any other liquid condiment unlikely to be pleasant with donuts. Be nice and keep it safe/ edible.

Small syringe -- Make sure this is a clean, preferably new syringe not being used for any other purpose, like medications.

Small cup

Step 2: The Weapon

Pour some sauce into a small cup. This will be easier to get at with your syringe than trying to go straight from the bottle.

Draw hot sauce up into your syringe.

Step 3: The Plan

Poke your syringe into the side of a donut hole.

Slowly push the syringe plunger down to inject the hot sauce. I find 10-15 cc to be a good amount; noticeable result without excess backwashing out of the hole.

After you withdraw the syringe, you'll see you've got a little hole left behind. I find that generally people don't pay that much attention to the finger foods at parties. If you place the donuts hole down in the serving container, people will probably just pop them in their mouths without even thinking about it. When one of our friends did notice, we just said they must be jelly filled and he bought it.

If you want a seamless donut hole just to be certain you don't blow your cover, you could re-roll your donut holes in powdered sugar or cinnamon-sugar to cover up the syringe's mark.

Only inject half of the donut holes. Now we've created a little suspense by making this a game of chance. This way, it's possible that your first snacker or two will just get a normal donut hole, which makes the shock of your first hot sauce victim even more impactful.

Mix and match fillings for an extra layer of fun. When we did this, we had 1/3 normal donut holes, 1/3 hot sauce filled, and 1/3 mustard filled. That way after the first prank donut is discovered, you can honestly say, "No, you guys. I promise. We did not fill all of these with (x filling)." Totally not a lie.

Step 4: The Result

From that first glimmer of confusion in their eyes to their frantic dash for the beverage cooler, the payoff for this prank is pretty excellent. Nobody will ever ask you to bring food to a potluck again.

Today's victim did not wish his photo to be published (party pooper!), but if you try this I'd love to see photos of your results! Remember to shoot in a vote for the pranks contest if this gave you a laugh.

*Use this prank responsibly, among good humored friends. Do not use sauces that contain known allergens, like peanuts, just in case your lucky winner happens to be allergic. Nothing kills a party like a trip to the ER.
