PET Bottle Fish Trap (Trampa de PET para peces)

When I was a boy (many, many years ago), I used to go fishing. But I was never an sportsman, I only fished for eating fresh fish at night.

One can catch two or three big fish, but it is easier to catch dozens of small fish. Fried little catfish are very tasty, just be careful opening and cleaning them prior to put them in the pan.

(Uno puede cazar dos o tres peces grandes, pero es más fácil cazar docenas de pequeños. Los bagrecitos fritos son muy sabrosos, solo hay que tener cuidado de abrirlos y limpiarlos antes de ponerlos a la sartén).

ADDED MAY 20 2012 by Eddy_V suggestion: "It would also advise not to throw it after use on the lake, dam, river or stream where you are, but to be used for upcoming shoots, preventing so contaminating water. "

Step 1 What you need:

- Two big soda bottles, 2 o 3 liters each. They can be smaller, but the result will be also smaller. If they are identical is better, but not essential. PET stands for PolyEthylene Terephthalate

- Packing tape

- Stapler (with its staples)

- Scissors, knife or so.

- A piece of wire to heat to the flame, or a soldering iron

- A piece of thread or thin rope

- A handful of small stones, which pass through the mouth of the bottle

- One or two cookies, or stale bread, preferably with fat (grease?)

(Dos botellas grandes de gaseosa, de 2 ó 3 litros cada una. Pueden ser más chicas, pero el resultado será también más chico. Si son idénticas, mejor, pero no es esencial. Pet significa PoliEtileno Teraftalato

- Cinta de ambalaje
-Abrochadora con sus broches
-Tijeras, cuchillo o similar
-Un pedazo de alambre para calentar a la llama, o un soldador para estaño.
-Un trozo de piolín o cuerda fina.
-Un puñado de piedritas, que pasen por el cuello de la botella
-Uno o dos bizcochos o trozos de pan duro, preferiblemente de grasa)

¡Oh sí! es una variación muy práctica de la clásica nasa de pescar. Yo la he usado, pero solo la hago con una sola botella PET.

Pero no es muy productivo, porque aunque en Cuba no está prohibida la pesca con nasa (excepto en áreas protegidas, claro) los peces que puedes agarrar con ese aditamento son muy pequeños. Casi dan lástima. Es más práctico contruirse una nasa con fibras tejidas, con un envase mayor o incluso una caja (muy parecidos a los que muestra @pop88).

Yo he utilizado esta nasa de botella PET solo para pescar camaroncitos de rio y guajacones (peces de acuario)

Pero si cazas muchos peces chicos, puedes freírlos y son muy ricos. Especialmente los bagrecitos, a mí me gustan mucho.

¡Ciertamente! Y en una situación de subsistencia yo lo recomendaría sin dudarlo como un medio idóneo para obtener alimento; si donde lances la nasa hay peces es muy seguro que alguno agarres con esta nasa.

Sería bueno aconsejar también que luego de utilizarlo no se bote en la laguna, represa, rio o arrollo donde se esté, sino sea utilizado para próximas capturas, y así se evita contaminar las aguas.

I saw this method being used by young men in the Philippines. Only they used glass bottles and the reason the traps work is that the fish are not supposed to be able to swim backwards. It must be something about the water going through the gills.
I would not call this crazy idea.
The fish the young people caught were dependent on the size of the bottle.

No! THIS trap is not based in the impossibility to swim backwards, because the little fishes can rotate backward into the trap. Simply, they can't find the exit. Please read my comment of Nov 12, 2010. 2:49 AM, in reply to dropkick.

We use a similar trap to catch nasty flying bugs like wasps, hornets and yellowjackets here in the US.

Gracias por tu comentario. Mi consideración fue ponerlo en inglés, no en español. Ojo que cada vez hay más lugares donde la pesca con trampas está prohibida. Y en algunos, incluso está prohibido llevarse el pescado, hay que devolverlo al agua. Creo que razones comerciales se enmascaran como "ecológicas", pero por suerte no vivo de la caza ni de la pesca.

Yes, I've seen traps like or akin that the right side at Mar del Plata Harbor. They are used for shrimps. I catched some little freshwater shrimps, too.

I agree with you about translations as many, like myself are not bi-lingual ... I know enough Spanish and French to get me in trouble and that's not good.

There was a couple other instructables that interested me about archery, for example, that are basically usless to me as I don't speak / read Spanish.

If you copy and paste into a translator program, you can get a pretty good idea of what the writer is trying to get across to you.
Google has a pretty good one. I use it frequently.
If you search for ''translator'', you will get many hits.
You can pick the language you want to translate to and from.

Use the translation programs only with great caution. They can give very bad errors. Do not use them for anything important, like business, financial affairs, ...

I believe there are many members who could translate. I for example have 3 languages, German, English, and (not perfect) Spanish. And a bit of French.

Apart the joke, one or two years ago I wanted to say "you are always at the foot of the cannon", but the online translator said "you are the last dried peach of the tin".

Regarding personal translation, I think one can translate TO its natal languaje. I.E. I could translate from spanish to english, but this can lead to great errors.
