Introduction: Home Made Fast Food Burger Cheap.

About: computoman.blogspot.com Bytesize articles instead of a trilogy in one post.

Almost had a heart attack when I saw the price of fast food lately. I decided not only make a meal cheaper, but a bit healthier. You get a delicious burger and a mountain of popcorn on the side that will have you begging for more. Cost of a quarter pound burger (before cooking) is less than half a dollar or so and the popcorn was just pennies.

Note: for some reason parts of my instructables are turning up missing and I am having to go back and redo them. Apologise for any issues.

Note: Since I first created this instructable the price of turkey has gone up dramatically.

Step 1: What's Needed:

Per burger:
2 - slices bread
1 - slice of cheese of your choice
1 - slab slice of onion
1 - portion salad
1 - quarter pound of uncooked ground turkey.
condiments: such as mayo, mustard, catsup, or etc.

Popcorn:
2/3 cup un-popped kernels enough to cover the bottom of a large pot.
Cooking oil.
Spaghetti sauce for later after the popcorn is popped. To be used like catsup.

Other instructables to consider:
Home made (prepared ahead of time):
Bread: (https://www.instructables.com/id/Italitex-Bread/)
Mayonnaise: (https://www.instructables.com/id/Quickie-homemade-mayonnaise/)
Cheese: (https://www.instructables.com/id/Yet-another-cheese-making-episode/)
Catsup: (https://www.instructables.com/id/Batchelor-catsup-pasta-sauce/)

Step 2: Side of Popcorn

Potatoes are kind of expensive right now and I wanted a change so I popped some popcorn. One nice thing about popcorn is that it can also be used as a breakfast cereal. We no longer purchase the over-priced sugar coated cereals.

Put the uncooked kernels in a large heavy pot.
Add cooking oil. (Olive oil gives a fruity taste)
Turn the stove on high.
When the kernels start popping, shake the pot to keep the kernels moving.
As the kernels stop popping, turn off the heat.
Set aside to cool for a bit.

Step 3: Toast the Bread.

Take a toaster and set it to the desired brown setting.
Insert bread slices (1 per slot).
Press down mechanism.
Let brown, but sort of keep an eye on it.
Bread should pop up when done.

Step 4: Brown the Meat.

Take the pound of ground meat and put it into a large frying pan.
Turn on to medium heat.
I throw the whole blob in the pan and do not worry about making patties.
You can split the meat into patties as it cooks (4 patties = 1/4 pound each). You can add spices to the meat at this point.
Keep browning till done.
You can use a meat thermometer to check for how done it is.
When finished cooking, turn off the heat and start on assembling the sandwich.

Step 5: Assemble the Burger and the Plate.

Take your toasted bread and add the condiment of your choice. I like to use my own home made aoili (garlic mayonnnaise).
Top with a slice of cheese.
Add the salad or lettuce.
At this point I will put a half a teashpoon of catsup or pasta sauce if I do not have any tomatoes.
Add the burger
Top with the other toast slice.
Cut the sandwich in half and put on the plate.
Add the popcorn to the plate.
Have pasta sauce ready if someone wants to put it on top of their popcorn.

Eat!!

Oops, I put so much popcorn you can not see the big burger.

Step 6: Veggie Burger

Veggie burger with beans as a base. Includes beans, whole oats, mushrooms, egg, onions, spices, and etc.
