Well maybe not anything, but what follows is an Instructable about how we at oomlout.com build everything we produce.

It is a technique we call Interlocking T-Bolt Construction. It consists of a T-cutout in one piece of acrylic (or any 3 mm stock) and a receptacle in another piece. These pieces can then be bolted together making a very secure 90 degree joint. A deceptively simple technique that has unlimited possibilities.

All that is required is an idea, some drawing software, and access to a laser cutter.

Lets get started.

(shameless plug)
to check out our delightfully fun open source products try visiting oomlout.com

a note on metric units
it should be noted that throughout we refer to 3mm thick acrylic. This is often sold as 1/8" acrylic and is not a big issue as the difference is less than 0.007".

Step 1Software

Software
Before we start a simple drawing programme is required. Something like Corel Draw, or Adobe Illustrator will work. But we recommend an open source equivalent, Inkscape.

To Get Inkscape:
  • Goto Inkscape.org and download the appropriate version for your operating system.
  • Install it.
  • If you are new to Inkscape perhaps going through a tutorial or two before hand may also be helpful, but not required.

You can run any graphics package you like. But whatever you do, just make sure your cutting service (or software if you are doing it yourself) does what you want. Personally, I prefer Linux and Open Software, but there are times to make a paycheck other things are needed (I have beat that old horse to death with employers before ... but the golden rule applies : the one with the gold, makes the rules) In the phlatboyz.com forum ( phlatforum.com ) they have an addin for sketchup to allow direct generation of 2d (or 2.5d depending on how you count it) graphics in gcode format. Mainly oriented to their foam cutter/printers, but I assume it could be used elsewhere. ... I was also told there is a free dxf exporter somewhere for sketchup, but I haven't found that yet. .. Enjoy...

Sketch-Up does not run natively on Linux. It didn't when you posted your comment, and it still doesn't today. No, I do not consider running it in an emulator a valid option.

You all complain about windows. Yet I bet 80% of you are using it right now. Just admit it, your not more 1337 because you say "linux". This is getting really boring.
This messages is not just for you jam, and I don't say you don't use linux. This message is for you and everyone on top of you.
Dec 8, 2011. 6:48 AMpfred2 says:
I'll take that bet that I'm not using Windows. I haven't for over 16 years now either. I'm more elite because I run GNU/Linux. Well at the very least far better than anyone who runs Windows. Which is a crappy monopoly that needs to die!

But I'm patient. I've every confidence that like all closed source commercial software it'll go away eventually. It is the nature of things. How is that software that you bought for XP working on Windows 7 for you? Ha ha! Can your new Windows OS use all of your old hardware even? Ha ha!

I bet if he was alive now P. T. Barnum would be on the Microsoft board of directors.

“There's a sucker born every minute.”
“Nobody ever lost a dollar by underestimating the taste of the American public.”
“Never give a sucker an even break.”

He seemed to hold their philosophy close to heart.

I agree completely. Looking back on this thread, the things I've said are absolutely awful. I've grown up a lot since then ;-) I'm actually on Linux right now - I still only use Windows for games, but I take your point. We've all had encounters with those of the "Macfag"-ey disposition, touting their overpriced hardware because, well, they don't have a reason. There is a growing community of "Linuxfags" too. I know of one who won't stop talking about his Ubuntu box on Facebook, yet asks me how to use GParted. It's graphical, for crying out loud!
Jun 22, 2011. 12:55 PMac1D says:
I guess he should definitly stick to windows then lol :-)
Jun 22, 2011. 12:03 AMGanoderma says:
The real point is if they have a choice ;)
I personally use windows but that doesn't mean I love it...

I basically don't have much of a choice because of the things I want to do with my computer (mainly gaming).
Sure, the games might run on a mac or linux using weird programs to allow one of those to run windows files... But face it, it's going to run better on windows because it's made for windows.

So yeah, I use windows and I complain about it... big deal!
Jun 21, 2011. 3:31 PM___ says:
I'm morally against windows, but i admit to using it even though I prefer Fedora. The problem with Linux is that most mainstream programs don't natively run in it, and it takes to much processor power to run them in a VM etc.. However, you should try to be slightly more lenient; nobody asked you to read this so as soon as you get bored, you should just stop reading an not lave a spiteful, condescending comment.

But this could apply to almost every comment here.. I did not say that to sound bad or angry, you know..

nice one. anything else? actually, can anyone think of any good linux sayings?
Dec 8, 2011. 7:22 AMpfred2 says:
Linus has great ones, "Software is like sex, it is better when it's free."

Followed closely by his other famous quote, "Only wimps use tape backup: real men just upload their important stuff on ftp, and let the rest of the world mirror it ."

I rather like this one myself, "Really, I'm not out to destroy Microsoft. That will just be a completely unintentional side effect. "

This one is good too, "A computer is like air conditioning: it becomes useless when you open Windows."

windows is not the answer, its the question, the answer is usually NO or Linux.

Some people have told me they don't think a fat penguin really embodies the grace of Linux, which just tells me they have never seen a angry penguin charging at them in excess of 100mph. They'd be a lot more careful about what they say if they had. -- Linus Torvalds
