Introduction: How to Make an Easy-Tear Notepad

About: Although I love all art in general, some of my favorites include photography, constructing practical stuff out of duct tape, and sewing up a storm. Before buying something I think twice about it, then usually …
Have you ever wondered how to make a notepad that you could tear out pages easily, without ripping the paper? Well, I discovered an easy way to make these notepads. There is only one answer: hotglue. I love hot glue guns. For me, they solve my everyday problems from repairing broken things to just gluing stuff in a hurry. Follow these steps to find out how to make a notepad!

Materials needed:
  • Hot glue gun with glue sticks
  • A stack of paper (any kind will do)
  • Thin piece of cardboard (either a Kleenex box, cereal box, or, for a sturdier notepad, a flap from a cardboard box)
  • Scissors

Time taken: 5 minutes
Skill level: Easy! Anyone can do this!

Step 1: Cut, Cut, Cut!

For starters, decide what size notepad you want. I chose 4 inches by a little over 3 inches, but you can choose any size you want. Cut the stack of paper to that size; if it is too thick for your scissors, divide it in half and cut separately. The stack of paper can be whatever thickness you desire.

Next, cut the cardboard. Trace the size of the paper onto the cardboard, and cut it out.

Now you have your pieces.

Step 2: The Gluing

Now you are to hot glue the pieces together. You do this by first making sure the tops of all the paper and the cardboard are all alligned. Next, squeeze a line of glue out on the top, smearing it flat with the edge of the hot glue gun. Wait a moment for it to dry.

Step 3: Trim

Trim off the excess cardboard or paper that hangs over.

Step 4: VOILA!

Ta da!!! Now you have your very own notepad. You can choose to decorate the backing with duct tape or a marker if the cardboard is plain, but I used a Kleenex box that had a floral pattern on it so I didn't have to. Enjoy making lists, drawing, or simply writing in your newly made notepad; you can even give one to a friend!

If you don't have a clip-on pen to go with your notepad, don't fret! Just visit one of my other instructables, Portable Pocket Pen, to see how to make one easily! Enjoy! :)
