Introduction: Simple Paper Flowers

Picture of Simple Paper Flowers

This is a low cost solution to having beautiful flowers at hand for your home, grannies, postal service delivery persons, weddings, and so on. They are very easy to make and look amazing when completed!

Step 1: Everything You Need...

Picture of Everything You Need...

To begin all you really need is some paper, glue, and scissors. The floral tape and stem wire are optional. You can make your own stems out of things around the house or by rolling paper. The floral tape will help in adding completed flowers together to make bunches.

Step 2: Cut Out a Petal and Crumple.

Picture of Cut Out a Petal and Crumple.

Cut out a petal and crumple. Simple eh? The crumpling makes the paper more pliable. Then just shape the petal into the form of the center bloom.

Step 3: Add Glue.

Picture of Add Glue.

Just add a small dab of glue to the bottom of the petal to hold the shape you want.

Step 4: Continue Adding Petals.

Picture of Continue Adding Petals.

Add petals to create a flower that is as big and open or as small and budded as desired. You can be as creative as you want. Experiment and have fun with it!

Step 5: Creating the Outer Petals.

Pinch a little fold at the bottom of the paper to create a curved petal. Add as many as you feel are sufficient.

Step 6: Insert Stem.

Add a dab of glue to stem wire or what ever you want to use as the base and insert into the center bottom of bloom. And there you go! A beautiful flower!

Step 7: Creative Things for Finishing Touches.

Use floral tape and colored scrapbook paper to add leaves and to make into bunches. You can also hand paint the stems to make the bunches look even more realistic.

MistyC2 (author)2015-04-12

I failed miserably :(

AdrianaP1 (author)2015-02-28

I really cute idea would be to do them with book pages. and then dip the edges in some paint or water color. Can I do these for school competition? They are really easy to make, easiest and best instructions I've seen.

barbara.j.leo (author)2015-02-23

Wonderful instruction...glad I happened upon this.

These were mine. I didn't worry about stems at all, and just had them finishing flush with the wire which I thought looked really neat.
To start them off, I made a small oval in the end of the wire before rolling the first petal on, and used hot glue to ensure that everything would stick.
I think they looked great, and using the extra-bright paper and mounting them in a wine glass really made them look pretty special!

Ayushi Sharma (author)2014-07-29 looks amazing..:)

I use Aleen's Turbo Tacky Glue, it works fast so you can just keep adding your petals without stopping! And the coffee filters work great, I dip mine in water based paint thinned with water, tinted to whatever color I want to mix up! Also I buy the fake rose bunches at Walmart & remove the roses, replace them with mine & spray them with a favorite perfume! Thanks for this great Instructable! I've really enjoyed making & giving these roses. Here's 3 of the roses I've made.

orlalou (author)2012-10-15

I really like the way u crumpled the leaves makes it look much prettier. I gave this one a shot & put it in an old jar with some seashells....i love seashells :)

KlareanGirl (author)2012-08-27

Mine sucks. :(

KlareanGirl (author)2012-08-27

I can't do it! How do you add petals to the center blossom, to make it big and open?

LunaSweetBlood (author)2011-10-31

I cannot for the life of me do these flowers. Mine come out teeeny tiny even after using two sheets of standard printer paper. They're no bigger than my thumb actually. How big do you make your petals?

make them about twice the size of a quarter

Gymgirl2 (author)2012-05-09

I have lots of old sheet music laying around. Guess what it's gonna become?

jmondor (author)2011-08-07

These are so beautiful! I have been trying to find something to do for a bouquet at my wedding (62 days to go!!!!!) and now I know!
Out of curiosity, how many petals did you find you used per flower?
I am going to try to make mine out of the pages of an old book. I may also paint a few. I'll let you know how it turns out!
This is an awesome instructable!

kkellner (author)2011-07-05

I did 6 for my GF and she loved them :]

Didn't take a picture, but I'll try to get one :D

Faust_Ali (author)2011-05-30

This is a great instructable! Very clear pictures, simple steps, and it uses things I already have around the house. Using your paper flower technique and a little personal creativity I made this awesome bouquet for my friend's birthday. Thanks for posting this project up :)

destructopop (author)Faust_Ali2011-06-29

That is SO gorgeous. Really plays up the best parts of this gorgeous instructable, with a flair of your creativity in it, too! How did you get those lovely gradients on the petals?

Faust_Ali (author)destructopop2011-07-02

Thanks! After making the flowers, I brushed them very lightly with watercolors, so that they got an even balance of colored and white splashes.

star_above_the_clouds (author)2011-06-02

So amazing and so easy! Love this!

I made one for my mom and painted it with nail polish. (:
