Introduction: Spaghetti Egg Bird's Nest

This recipe is a Baked Bird's nest made with spaghetti and Egg placed in the middle. The crisp Spaghetti along with egg went along so well. I tried it twice and learnt few tips and I have added few notes in each step. Hope you like it :)

Ingredients:

For the Pasta Sauce:

Tomatoes - 3 medium sized
Onion - 1 small
Garlic - 4
Oregano - 1/4 tsp
Black Pepper powder - 1/2 tsp
Chilli flakes - 1/2 tsp
Tomato Sauce - 2 tsp
Sugar - 1 tsp(optional)
Oilve Oil or Vegetable Oil - 1 tbsp
Salt - to taste

Spaghetti:

Spaghetti - 1.5 cups
Onion - 1/2 chopped finely
Pasta sauce - 3 tbsp
Egg - 2

Step 1: Get Ready Your Ingredients

Step 2: Pasta Sauce - Puree the Tomato

Boil enough water and add the tomatoes.
Let it get cooked for 2-3 mins. Take it out of the boiling water.
Let it cool down and peel of the skin.
Puree it to a fine paste(no water to be added).Keep aside.

Step 3:

Heat oil, add onion, garlic and saute till lightly brown in color.
Add the tomato puree. Allow it to cook til the raw smell leaves and puree has reduced.

Note : We are not adding water at this stage because we want the spaghetti to have a the flavor of the sauce and a crisp texture after baking.

Step 4: Final Stage of the Sauce

Add the oregano, pepper, salt, sugar, chilli flakes at this stage. Bring it together.

Step 5: Boil the Spaghetti

Use a large vessel with lots of cold water. Bring the water to boil. When the water is at a fully boiling, add 1 Tbsp of salt after the water starts to boil.
Add the spaghetti a little at a time so the water doesn't stop boiling.
Boil the spaghetti uncovered for about 10 minutes.
Take a spaghetti from the pot after you feel it is done and taste it when cool enough. It should be tender and also firm enough.
Place a Strainer with a vessel below and drain the spaghetti.
Pasta must not be allowed to sit after cooking or it will quickly become a sticky, clumpy mass. So time the sauce and pasta making accordingly.
Toss in Spaghetti and the required amount of sauce. Bring them together.

Step 6: Bird's Nest

Take a cup cake baking dish or mold. Place the spaghetti as shown in the picture forming a closely spaced bird's nest.

Note: Take care that no space is left within spaghetti or the egg when baking will seep through the hole and wont look like a nest. [ Lesson learnt from my first trial :) ]

Preheat the oven at 180 degree. Then Bake the Spaghetti for about 5 minutes till crisp and dry.

Step 7:

Separate the egg white and the yolk carefully so the the yolk doesn't break apart.
To the egg white add salt as desired.
Place carefully the egg white and then yolk at the center.

Note: Sometimes the entire egg white may not fit in the basket so while placing the white keep in mind that there is enough space for the yolk.

Step 8: Bake the Nest

Bake for another 10 minutes at 180 degree. Bake till the yolk and the white look firm. Remove from oven. Remove from the baking dish carefully
