This year I decided to put an updated spin on a Santa suite for and annual Thanksmas Eve Party. This hoodie not only turned head and got compliments wherever I went but I must have been asked to make at least 15 for people other than myself, It was so simple I figured that I would just share the instructions and let people make themselves one.

Background:

Time: 30 minutes - 1 hour depending on sewing speed

Cost: Hoodie $10- 20 (Target / Marshalls)
Garland $ 3 (on second hoodie "fur" from Michael's $ 5)
Needle and Thread (you should have this but if you don't) $2

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

What You'll Need:

1 plain Red Hoodie ( any other color will do but seriously Santa and Hot Mrs. Clause
wear red, green if you want to be an elf )

Garland for the white accents (higher quality fur can be substituted but doesn't need to be)

Something to secure the Garland to the Hoodie ( Safety pins worked fine but for a more
permanent look you could sow)

What You'll Want:

This Template

Iron on letters (for personalization)

A winter warmer or eggnog

Christmas carols playing in the background

Anything else you need to get into the spirit

Step 2: Settle in and Start

Now that you have all your supplies sit down and get comfortable. If you're using the garland and safety pins as in the original, begin at the top collar on one side and place the garland as shown in the attach diagrams.

For those using garland

The torso, sleeves, and hood are done separately

Place the garland following the Arrows and then use the safety pins as direct to close around the metal wire center of the garland. Make sure to catch 2 wires at a time for both security and a full look, around the bottom group lines 1 & 2 and 3 & 4 together for pinning.

For those of you using "Âfur".

The Chest, bottom, sleeves, and hood are done seperately

Place the "fur" facedown as shown in the diagram, with the majority of the "fur"Â hanging between the zippers, sew straight down from the collar. Stop at the bottom. Fold the "fur"Â over itself, and using thread the same color as the "Âfur"Â sew down the chest.

Measure the Bottom of the hoodie from zipper on one side around the back to opposite zipper, add about 2 inches to determine the amount of "Âfur"Â needed for the bottom. On the Bottom sew the "fur"Â in a similar fashion except this time place the "fur"Â face down with the bottom edge, edge closest to the bottom hem, where you want the top of the fur to be when the hoodie is complete. Sew in place, fold the "fur"Â over itself, and wrap underneath the bottom of the hoodie, using the same color thread as before sew both sides. Ultimately sandwiching the bottom of the hoodie between the folded over "fur"

Step 3: Wrists

For those using garland
Wrap each wrists three times with the garland, think candy cane with a very sparse area of red. Use 6 safety pins around each wrist, making sure to close all 3 inner wires under each safety pin.

For those of you using "fur".

Measure the circumference of the wrist, distance around the outside. Cut the "fur" to fit leave about 2 inches extra "just in case" and attach just as you did the bottom.

Step 4: Hood

By now you're getting the hang of attaching the "fur" or garland to the hoodie. Use the same methods as on the wrist, or bottom, to attach it to the hoodie. Make sure to start close to the shoulders, about 1 inch from the top of the collar and attach the pieces from one side to the other, I went from left to right but that was just preference.

Step 5: Personalize

Add whatever you want to make this a special holiday hoodie. I used Iron on letters.

Simply follow the instructions on the package that accompanies the letters.
