Introduction: Sweet Shotgun Shells

About: He's just this guy, you know?

This project came about when my son wanted to make presents for his friends, he asked me to come up with something for someone who was into Zombies.

So after a little research I came up with the idea of supplying his friend with Ammunition for the upcoming Zombie Apocalypse, or at the very least to give him fresh breath for when the time came....

To create your own you will need the following :-

  • 5 Rolls of Polo Mints (in the US I think there is a similar product called Life Savers, but I'm not sure if they are the same size)
  • Gold Card
  • Red Paper
  • White Card
  • Access to a Colour Printer
  • Access to a Black and White Laser Printer
  • Scissors or Craft Knife
  • Non-Toxic Paper Glue

Step 1: Prepare the Mints

The first task is to cut the rolls of mints in half, Polo's have an odd number of mints in the rolls so you get to enjoy a minty treat while making this project...Bonus

Step 2: Wrapping the Shells

Print out the Shotgun Shell Body.pdf, which is included below, on the red paper, and cut out the Shell Wraps using either scissors or a craft knife.

Roll each half pack of mints in the Shell Wrap making sure that they end of the roll are between the printed lines, glue the Shell Wraps together using Non-Toxic Paper Glue.

Next feather cut each end of the rolls (see picture), then fold over the ends and seal with the Non-Toxic Paper Glue.

Glue a piece of red paper the one end of the shell, and trim it to size.

Step 3: Finishing Off

Cut some strips of gold card long enough to wrap around the shells by about 10mm wide.

Wrap the gold strips around the end of the shell that does not have the paper cap on (see picture), and glue in place. The best way I found was to stand the shell on end on a flat surface ,then glue the strip on so that it is flush to the surface.

Next you will need to print the Shotgun Shell End Cap.pdf on the gold card using a Laser Printer, Inkjet printers won't work on the gold side. If you don't have access to a Laser Printer just print the file on the reverse side of the card, so that you can still cut the caps out to the correct size.

Cut out the caps and glue them together so that each cap has a design on one side and is plain on the reverse.

All that remains is to glue the shell to the end caps and your minty ammunition is complete.

For the box Print out the Shotgun Ammo Box.pdf and Shotgun Ammo Box Insert.pdf, and assemble as instructed.

My sons friend loved his present, the only problem he had was whether to keep the box of shells or eat the mints...I never did find out which he did.

Enjoy
