In my first Instructable I showed how to make a paracord jig from a yardstick. In this tutorial we will adapt and use the Yardstick Paracord Jig I made prevously to make the Traveling Paracord Jig shown here. I originally never intended to make the the jig with storage, it was more evolutionary. So the idea for making this came to me, thinking that it would be great to take some paracord and basic supplies on a short trip such as camping, road trip, hiking, anywhere you have some spare time. It would make a gift for a young aspiring paracord crafter.

*I have several individuals ask what a paracord jig is used for. Its an aid for tying bracelets for the most part using parachute cord.

Step 1: Materials / Tools

Materials:

3 feet of 1/4 by 2 1/4 wood
Yardstick Paracord Jig (my other instructable)
Set of hinges
Glue
Saw
Clamps
Wood plane / sand paper
Stain (optional)
Disk magnets
Thumb screw 1 1/4 inches long
Small door knob about 1/2 inch

Step 2: Cut Door and Back Panel

Cut 2 pieces of 1/4 inch by 2 inches - 13 inches long. One piece will be the door and the other will be the back.
The jig will be used for the top part of the enclosure.

Step 3: Cut Left / Right Sides

The left side is cut 1 3/8 by 2 5/8

The right side is cut 1 3/8 by 3 1/8

Step 4: Cut Bottom Piece

For the bottom of the box I decided to use a yardstick. It will be cut flush to the left and right sides, Cut this piece 13 1/2 inches.

Step 5: Glue Together

Glue all pieces together. The bottom photo shows the finished product to this point. I wasn't sure where to add this but the adjusting screw will need to be replaced with a thumb screw of the same size. It will make it much easier to adjust and wont have to carry a screw driver around with you.

Step 6: Shape and Fit Door

The piece that was cut for the door in step 2 will now have to be fitted. About an 1/8 inch will have to be planed off the long end or sanded. Planing will be much faster. About a 1/16 will have to be taken off the sides.

Step 7: Traveling Paracord Jig

I decided to stain the jig. I would suggest some kind of sealer.

Step 8: Install the Hinges

The hinges can be put approximately 3 inches from each side. I did 3 inches on the left and 4 inches on the right. I suggest predrilling
holes to prevent wood from splitting.

Step 9:

These are small disk magnets (left photo) glued to the inside corners of the door.

Inside the box small pieces of wood were cut and glued just below where the magnets touch then a 1/4 inch screw was put on top for the magnet to attach to. The screws can be used to adjust the door to make it flush with the outside of the box.

Step 10: Install a Knob

Here I made a ranger bead using 550 paracord, drilled a hole just small enough for the cord to pass through and glued it in place. A regular knob will work as well. The whole was drilled so the knob has more surface are to attach to. it's not really necessary just the way I decided to do it.
