Very Cool Mini Disposable Razor Tri-pod for Your Camera!

Here is a quick and easy project you can make in about an hour or two...maybe less! Best of all, most of these materials are easily found around the house or garage waiting to be reused!

  I made this tri-pod for our digital camera and I'll show you how to make your own in several easy steps...and seeing how most disposable razors have pivoting heads this means your "razor tri-pod" will have adjustable legs for un-even surfaces or adjusting camera angles.

PLEASE NOTE: This tri-pod is suited for small, pocket sized digital cameras. I wouldn't use this mini tri-pod for large expensive SLR cameras!


SO LET'S GET STARTED...

Basic Materials :

* 3 Disposable Razors - Rubber type handles work best as they grip surfaces better (New or Used it doesn't matter)

* Gorilla Glue & Hot Glue (or other adhesive of your preference)

* 1/4" Bolt that is about 1 /12" long

* Small scrap piece of 1/2" wood (I used a scrap piece of plywood)

* Various washers and spacers I had in a junk box for area between camera and wooden base

Tools :

* Power Drill with 1/4 wood drill bit & 1/2" Bore Bit (someone correct me if this is not the proper name and I will fix it)

* Jig saw with wood cutting blade

Ok, go ahead and get all your materials ready....

Step 1: Making the Camera Mount.....

 The camera mount...this is the part on which your camera will sit. I am sure this particular can be purchased seperately, but then this wouldn't be as fun making your own!

* Start by marking off a 2" x 2" x 2" triangle on the scrap of wood. Do not cut this out yet.

* Next mark the center of your triangle, take the 1/2" bore bit and drill a hole deep enough to cover the bolt's head.

* Now take the 1/4" drill bit and drill the hole the rest of way...the hole boring bit will have already made a pilot hole for you to follow...see that smaller hole inside the larger hole pictured? That's it...a guide for the smaller bit.

* Get the jig saw out and cut the triangle shape, sand it lightly and place the bolt completly thru...I used Elmer's Wood Putty and completely covered the bolt's head and let it dry, sanded it down and then painted it black. You do not need to paint it. Bolt will not spin freely nor pop out now.)

 That's it for the mount, good job so far. Let's continue...

Step 2: Disposable Razor Leg's....

This is what "makes" the tri-pod "what it is"...the disposable razor legs.

Attaching the legs can be accomplished a couple different ways. Gorilla Glue works well, I use a version that is activated with moisture and it expands. 

 Hot Glue works great, setting almost instanlty! This really seeps in between the blades and holds excellent when it bonds to the wooden base!

 So that's your next step....

* Use your adhesive and permanently attach the razors to the three sides of the tri-pod mount. I did one leg at a time.

 At this point I found a few metal spacers and washers which I placed over the bolt to give a more finished look and to also take up some space that doesn't thread into the camera.

Step 3: Takes Some Pictures!

THAT'S IT...FINISHED!

Mount your camera to the tri-pod, set up a position, grab the remote or set the timer and snap some rock steady pictures.
