Introduction: How to Make a Eskrima Stick Fighting Dummy

this is a stick dummy i built to practice stick fighting on. here is a link to my other instructable on how to make sticks to go with it.

the materials, 1, a large pole(more on this later). 2, dowel rods of different sizes. 3, some scrap wood lying around. 4, four L brackets. 5, lots of screws, and 6, a one inch and three fourths of an inch drill bit.

Step 1: To the Pole, People!

the first thing (and probably hardest to find) is a large pole. depending on your size, it may be bigger or smaller than mine. mine is 5 feet tall, which would work for most people, but taller people may want it bigger. for mine, i went to my back yard and cut a tree(a stunted one, that is) to use for it, though if you could get your hands on a fence post, that would be better. the key thing is that it be round, that is the most important part.

Step 2: The Base of the Matter

the important thing about the base is that it be large enough. if it isn't big enough, it will fall over, and then you have to start all over again. yours doesn't need to be an exact copy, just hold it up. if anything, i would make it a little bit bigger, so it wouldn't wobble.

Step 3: Lets Give This Guy Some Arms!

the arms need to be attached really well,as they will take quite a beating. to make them i simply cut a 3 foot length of dowel and cut it in half diagonally so that one end is flat and the other end is angled. to attach, take a one inch drill bit and drill all the way through at the angle of you liking. be sure to put one higher than the other, so they can go through all the way. next, pushing them so that the arms go through a little, screw a long wood screw in both.

Step 4: Give Him a Leg Up(or Maybe Two)!

the legs are much the same as the arms, except that the are shorter and thinner. now, similar to the arms, drill a hole and put them in,and screw a screw in to hold it in. however you use a three fourths of an inch bit,and they most likely go all the way through. so you need two screws, and you put them at an angle to the dowel. note that you need to put them in enough. other wise they will fall out when hit.

Step 5:

finished! now that you have it, do what you want with it. you can use it with a sword(wooden) or punching dummy( though you might want to wrap it with something).
