Here's my code: http://pastebin.com/yBFYQr7RI added a few casual comments. The big thing that I think yours was missing was having all of the letters go in order, as that was something the show did a lot. Plus it helped that the shirt wasn't always spelling words as it increased engagement.
Thanks so much for your post, I won 2 different costume contests with the shirt! I made a few mods: (1) I used electrical tape liberally to keep things isolated. Worked great. (2) My code was much more complicated. I had it go through all the lights as it did in the shirt, then spell out a few words. Then every 30 iterations, it would put all of the lights on and off quickly. People really liked it. I couldn't have done it without your post, thanks again.
This looks so cool, I'm going to try to get this made for my Halloween party. I'd like to extend it so I can set the message via my phone. Any idea if that's super complicated to add?
