About:Hi, I’m Ben Connors. I'm a Visual Storyteller and Media Innovator. I believe that information is everywhere, that patterns define us, and that we have the tools to change our own patterns. In 2011, I helped imagine and launch Al Jazeera English's, "social network, with a daily TV Show, the Stream." The show won a People's Voice Webby in 2012 and an Innovation Award from the Royal Television Society. Most importantly though it moved the bar for the talk show genre. The Stream is a first-of-it's-kind show. It exists where TV and the internet collide. It’s all the amplification power of a live television broadcast to 250 million homes, and all the egalitarianism, energy and wisdom of a global internet community 35k strong and growing. As of May of 2012, I've left Al Jazeera, and joined The Washington Post as the Innovation Editor of it's Video Department. I'm excited to be working on a new project now, and I'm sorry I can't share more info about it just yet. I get really excited about: technologies that bring people together, about the whole DIY maker scene, about science that expands the body of human knowledge, and about people who believe in making the world a better place. I have a few big ideas up my sleeve and I'm always looking for friends willing to get their hands dirty with me. I'm a graduate of American University, and a decade long DC resident. When I'm not trying to be so serious or profound, I cherish escaping in a good novel, zipping around town on my bicycle, running, mostly so I can enjoy tasting new craft beers guilt-free, traveling outside my comfort zone (particularly with my high-school-sweetheart and now wife Erin), breathing-in the great outdoors and vegging with good sci-fi. Woot, Battle Star Galactica! Thanks for taking the time to read about me.
