Hi Beginner Knife Makers,My company Gameco - Artisan Supplies is selling a knife maker kit for beginners. It contains– Piece of 1084 Steel Annealed (soft)– Set of Scales to make handle– Pin stock to fit handle to Knife– Lanyard Tube– Rhynowet Sandpaper– and an instruction guide with more than 2500 words to guide you in making your first knife.There are additional tools that are required such as – Permanent Marker– Angle grinder or hacksaw– Drilling machine– Metal file or belt grinder– Scrap wood or steel– Clamps– Lubricant such as WD40, soapy water, windex– Magnet– Something to heat the steel– Darkened workshop– Metal container– Cooking oil– Kitchen Oven– Glue – 24 hour set epoxy such as araldite super strength– Saw– Rag to clean of excess from blade and tools– AcetoneThe kit is very basic but excellent for beginners. I think the most precious thing in the kit is the 2500 word long instruction how to actually make a knife. Happy Knifemaking!

I haven't made a knife from scratch in 60 years but back then, we used spring steel from old junk cars. That spring steel seemed to work well.
