To LBos11, what materials to use when making a ghillie suit Ghillie fabric/String material: You do NOT need to use hessian jute bags! Trust me, if you live in the US, you won't have much luck finding them. Instead, go to your local fabric supply/arts and crafting store (use YellowBook.com or google to find) and ask for a material called utility burlap. If you don't want to go out of you house to make a suit, consider cutting any old green flannel pajamas or shirts into one fourth to one half inch strips strips, then follow the rest of the instructions in this Instructable. Don't worry too much about how much the burlap will cost (I was able to get a 45 square foot (5 yards x 1 yard) cut of brown burlap at 1$(USD) per yard for 5$(USD) and a 27 square foot (3 yards x 1 yard) cut of white burlap at 3$(USD) per yard for 9$(USD) I bought white burlap so I can produce a wider range of color, more on that below) They may or may not have many colors of burlap that you can choose from, but if they sell it at all, it will most likely be brown. Dyes and colors: Since burlap is a natural fiber, it will take dyes very well. Therefore you don't need to use only Dylon dye, Rit and just about any other fabric dyes will more than likely work (check with one of the shop assistants to be sure). Before you buy dyes, think about where you are going to use your Ghillie suit most. For heavily forested areas, use darker shades(more greens, less browns) and keep the fabric in the dye longer. For large open fields consider using lighter shades(more browns less greens). you will have to figure out the exact color you'll use to best replicate the foliage you use the suit in. Brown burlap, depending on its shade, will be a little tougher to determine the length of time you leave it in the dye. Less time in the dye means lighter shades of the dye's color. More time in the dyes means darker shades. Also, if the color of the burlap is already dark when you buy it, you won't have much luck trying to dye it a lighter color than it already is. Putting the net on a lighter color of clothing and tying shorter strips of burlap to the net or spacing the strips out more might help make it appear lighter. Netting and BDU You might be able to find the netting in the same store but I had to go to a different store. If you can't find it at the same place, look for a home and garden improvement store. The Home Depot or Lowes might have it. I found mine at a craft store called Michael's check your local directory for one. The type of net I found was a recycled fish net that they sold for decorative purposes. The color of the net can be a factor in the effectiveness of your suit. Try to find a brown, black, or green color. White can work, if you tie enough burlap strips on it (they can cover it up). BDU stands for Battle Dress Uniform and to buy them, check your local army surplus. If you don't want to spend the money them, or if you don't have a nearby army surplus, you can use any old clothes you might have. Try to find something that is brown black or green(outdoor colors). Hello! Welcome to Instructables!

I am the Instructables Robot. My job is to alert you whenever someone leaves you a comment or sends you a private message. I spend most of my day sending email. I like sending email.

You probably want to upload an image to your profile. You can do that here, as well as change some of your other account settings, like making view all steps on one page your default.

After that, check out How to make a great Instructable, The Guided Tour of Instructables, and the Help Group if you have any questions.
