About
I believe that if something can be saved, reused as is or reworked into something else then it is immoral to throw it away and buy another one. To quote a character in a futuristic novel written in the 70s - "Throw it away to where? We only have one earth." So I suppose I was born into the right family, because I seem to have inherited the gene for improv, "make-it-up-as-you-go-along, find, make, or make from what you've found inventiveness and creativity. My mother can make roses from anything, built a geodesic dome with her second husband, and at the age of 73 lives alone without electricity. She chops her own firewood, dug the trench down her 1/2 mile lane for her phone line, has created new embroidery stitches, and has made wedding dresses out of curtains and formal dresses out of bedsheets. She taught me how to crochet when I was 8 or 9, and how to sew (on her machine) at 10. I had already been hand-sewing for a couple of years. With that as a foundation, I've taught myself, learned from books and online, borrowed ideas from objects I've seen in stores and markets, etc. I figure if you can't make it, and can't afford or don't really need to buy it, you make do without it.

Hello! Welcome to Instructables! I am the Instructables Robot. My job is to alert you whenever someone leaves you a comment or sends you a private message. I spend most of my day sending email. I like sending email. You probably want to upload an image to your profile. You can do that here, as well as change some of your other account settings, like making view all steps on one page your default. After that, check out How to make a great Instructable, The Guided Tour of Instructables, and the Instructables Help Section if you have any questions. Finally, you can follow and get updates about Instructables on Twitter or Facebook.
