just a note, its the soap that wash and take away the nasty stuff from the thing being washed into the water. you need to use enough to remove all the dirt in one wash. if you use less than needed bad stuff will remain in/on the item. i always use the same quantity as a full load in a washing machine, even more sometimes. dont skimp, it will not hurt if you rince correctly afterwards.
personally i add both normal liquid and powder detergent. this work quite well with down/feather pillow or sleeping bag. people dont realize, but those things get very dirty. the following image are from 1year of use on a normal bed. i wash all syntetic bag and pillow in my top washer. normally there is no problem if the insulating layer is stitched correctly.
