I agree. What worries me is I bought them from a respectable UK distributor and not eBay. I guess some inline fuses (like the automotive ones) wouldn't hurt. They would cut the power in the event of a large surge, but not exactly stop a fire!
Hi Dan, I've been mulling over your instructable in my mind for quite a while. I take it (from the snaps) you live in the UK - like me! Have you had any trouble from electricians with your install? I'm looking at doing something *very* similar but with DMX dimmer packs that you hard-wire the lighting circuits into. Looking at the best way to power the dimmer packs from the Lighting radial. I plan to take the standard 6A lighting radial and use this to power the packs, each having their own RCD, as the packs I'm looking at have their own MCB per channel - sound about right?
