Being that I was an electronics technician in the Navy, one who was quite adept at working with radar systems, I'll still take issue with the fact that you are calling it an "acoustic radar display", as that is a contradiction in terms, since radar is an acronym meaning RAdio Detection And Ranging. A radar system uses radio waves, where a sonar (or sodar, which is simply a subset of sonar systems) uses sound waves. Sonar is NOT as you claim, only used underwater. Yes, it's most effective underwater due to the way that sound waves propagate in that medium vs. in air, but it CAN be used in the air as sodar systems are. Sodar systems are almost exclusively used in meteorology to measure wind speeds.
FYI, there's a word for "acoustic radar", it's called sonar. That's what you have built.
